		Surface tension of decane binary and ternary mixtures with eicosane, docosane and tetracosane
		A tensiometer operating on the Wilhelmy plate method was employed to measure liquid-vapor interfacial tensions of 3 binary and one ternary mixtures of decane with eicosane, docosane and tetracosane.
		Binary mixtures n-C10H22 + n-C20H42, n-C10H22 + n-C22H46 and n-C10H22 + n-C24H50 and the ternary n-C10H22 + n-C20H42 + n-C24H50 were measured from 293.15 K (or above the solution melting temperature) up to 343.15 K. An average absolute deviation of 1.3 % was obtained against pure component literature data.

		In this paper experimental data on the solid-liquid and solid-solid equilibria in the binary system (docosane + tetracosane) and solid solubility data in the ternary system (heptane + docosane + tetracosane) are presented.
		Solid disappearance temperatures were measured for 14 mixtures of docosane and tetracosane dissolved in various quantities of heptane.
		The experimental results reveal that the solubility curves found in the ternary system correspond to the phase behavior of the binary subsystem studied.

	Characterization of phytochemicals stimulatory to sexual reproduction in Phytophthora cactorum and P. parasitica
		Among them, the two non-digitonide TLC bands were further separated by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and the active fractions were isolated for gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis.
		Compounds identified were 3-eicosyne, b-farnesene, tetradecane (2, 6, 10-trimethyl), docosane, hexadecanol (2-methyl), phytol, and pentatriacontane.
		Since phytol is a common plant natural product, its presence was further confirmed by comparing the GC retention time and mass spectrum with those of a commercial standard (Aldrich), and its oospore stimulatory activity was selected for further study.

		An interesting phenomenon was observed; the permeate flux for docosane solutions could be described reasonably well with the simple pressure-flux model using the Van't Hoff equation to calculate the osmotic pressure.

		We conducted ellipsometric and stray light intensity measurements on these films in air as a function of temperature in order to determine their optical thickness and surface roughness.
		Further study of these flat gold surfaces is necessary to assure their suitability for alkane film studies by synchrotron x-ray scattering.
