Time Lord - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Virgin novels, and by extension the BBC novels, took heavily from the so-called "Cartmel Masterplan" devised by former Doctor Who script editor Andrew Cartmel, which was supposed to explain the Doctor's origins and his ties to Gallifrey's ancient history.
The revelation in the 1996 television movie that the Doctor was half-human proved controversial among fans, and some have suggested that only the Eighth Doctor was half-human due to the particularly traumatic circumstances of his regeneration (as opposed to the Doctor having been half-human all along).
Eventually, the Pythia's curse was lifted with the arrival of the Fourth Doctor's companion Leela on Gallifrey.

In 1999, Doctor Who and the Curse of Fatal Death, a parody starring Rowan Atkinson as a future incarnation of the Doctor in his final battle with the Master (Jonathan Pryce), was created for the charity Comic Relief.
In 1976, two Doctor Who novelisations, Doctor Who and the Auton Invasion by Terrance Dicks and Doctor Who and the Cave-Monsters by Malcolm Hulke, were published in Finnish, as Tohtori KUKA ja autonien hyökkäys, and Tohtori KUKA ja luolahirviöt, respectively.
Doctor Who audio adventures diversified somewhat in the 1990s, when the BBC began issuing the soundtracks of 1960s-era serials on cassette and compact disc, some with added narration.

No first-run episode of ''Doctor Who'' has ever drawn fewer than three million viewers on BBC One, although its late 1980s performance of three to five million regular viewers was seen as being poor at the time, and was a leading cause of the programme's 1989 suspension.
It has been said that watching ''Doctor Who'' from a position of safety "behind the sofa" (as the ''Doctor Who'' exhibition at the Museum of the Moving Image in London was titled) and peering cautiously out to see if the scary bit was over is one of the great shared experiences of British childhood.

DALEKS - INVASION EARTH 2150 AD FACTS AND INFORMATION
Doctor Who and his companions use the time machine the TARDIS to travel to the future, where they discover a world in which mankind has been enslaved by the Daleks.
''Daleks - Invasion Earth 2150 AD'' (1966) is the second of two ''Doctor_Who'' films made during the 1960s to feature Peter_Cushing as the time traveller Doctor Who (unlike the television series, where the character is simply called the Doctor).

 DOCTOR WHO SPIN OFFS
For those who disliked his portrayal of The Doctor on TV "The Ultimate Adventure" proved to be a revelation as he came across as likable, funny and heroic without going over-the-top.
Forget the arguments about whether the various Doctor Who stage plays can be termed "canonical" - this, like the others is intended as nothing more than a good night out at the theatre for the family, in short a Doctor Who pantomime.
McCoy mumbles something incoherent, Pertwee tries to stay alive and Baker (who just about pulls it off) sits in a room with lots of things spinning around his head.

One explanation for the fund's relative obscurity is that it levies a sales charge, of up to 4.5%, which turns off investors who pick their own funds.
Keeley, 64, invests in niches that most other funds ignore: orphan companies that have been spun off by their parents, financial institutions that are converting from mutual to public ownership and companies that have emerged from bankruptcy.
Its gains are nearly four percentage points per year better than the average of all funds that invest in small, undervalued companies and more than six points per year better than the average of all funds that invest in stocks of small companies.

Diagnostic Instrument - NASA technology was used to create a compact laboratory instrument for hospitals and doctor offices that more quickly analyzes blood, accomplishing in 30 seconds what once took 20 minutes.
Prosthesis Material - Responding to a request from the orthopedic appliance industry, NASA recommended that the foam insulation used to protect the Shuttle's external tank replace the heavy, fragile plaster used to produce master molds for prosthetics.

 Abslom Daak -- Canon?
Over Doctor Who's 32 year history lots of spin-offs have been produced taking well-loved characters out of the TV show and placing them in new and interesting situations.
Abslom Daak is one of the few Doctor Who comic spin-offs which have really seen any sort of sustained popularity.
Also, it appears to be Doctor Who comic convention to make the Dalek bumpers large and rounded instead of rather small and cornered off as they have always appeared in the television series.

The comical Doctor Who - Apocryphal Doctor Who stories
And not even the first time a Doctor Who spoof had been seen on British television.
The Comic Relief spoof, Doctor Who and the Curse of Fatal Death, presented us with a "ninth" Doctor Who, portrayed by Rowan Atkinson.
It's just Doctor Who that gets bogged down in obsessive continuity - or more accurately, Doctor Who fans who can't lighten up and stop being so precious about it all.

This is one of the strange Doctor Who spin-offs which have some thick and fast since the programme ended back in 1989.
Colin Baker was the poorest of all the Doctors so why they thought it would be a good idea to cast him alongside the shortlived Doctor Who companion from the seventies, Caroline John, is anybody's guess.
There's been no decent Doctor Who during the nineties.

Doctor Who - Title Sequences & History (TV-ARK ON-LINE MUSEUM - CULT PROGRAMMES)
Doctor Who was created in 1963 by Sydney Newman and Donald Wilson, and launched by producer Verity Lambert, who was then 27 years old.
In the pilot, Hartnell's Doctor was alien, distant and almost callous.
Colin Baker played the Doctor from series 21 onwards as brash and colourful, so Sutton made the titles brash and colourful.

Doctor Who: A Brief History of Time (Travel): A Beginner's Guide To Doctor Who
Amongst the Doctor's most famous nemeses are the Master (an evil Time Lord who has faced the Doctor in several of his own incarnations), the Daleks (metal-cased mutants famous for their “Exterminate!” battle cry), the cybernetic Cybermen, the reptilian Ice Warriors, the warlike Sontarans, the ferocious Yeti, and more.
Doctor Who is about an alien time traveller who calls himself the Doctor (“Doctor Who” is very rarely used as the name of the character -- typically only in the end credits).
Doctor Who serials from the Sixties were all in black and white; episodes from 1970 on were in colour, although some survive only in monochrome (see Question 11, below).

 Doctor Who Spin-offs
The voice of the Doctor was provided by Richard E. Grant, who ironically had played one of the celebrity Doctors in the Comic Relief spoof.
The Doctor's robot dog K-9 had been popular with younger viewers, and the new show sought to capitalize on that - teaming him with former companion Sarah Jane Smith (played by Elizabeth Sladen) who could handle the actual acting requirements.
In 1999, we were presented with a ninth Doctor, in the person of popular comedy actor Rowan Atkinson.

Wired 12.05: The Doctor Will Freeze You Now
For the moment, this 10-person outfit is helping doctors chill their patients during heart, brain, and vascular surgery, where lower temperature translates into more available time on the operating table, less potential for blood loss, and fewer post-op complications.
To prepare for stopping the heart, for instance, doctors divert the bloodstream through a heart-lung machine that circulates the entire blood volume 30 to 60 times an hour.
Major surgery can be hell on a patient, and procedures that require interrupting blood flow can be the worst because they starve the body of oxygen.

 my-discount :: Auton
Definately the best of the Doctor Who spin-offs I've seen so far and wouldn't look out of place among the originals.
The drama is set soley in a warehouse, and without giving too much plot away, is focused on a mysterious character 'Lockwood' who works for UNIT and is investigating 'strange happenings' at a UNIT research lab.
Comment: If you agree with the BBC that Dr Who is too expensive to make to the quality they want, watch this & have your mind changed.

Alongside this is a brief overview of Doctor Who spin-offs, with new footage of various fan projects (in the form of Dalek tales using toy Daleks, or simple Doctor Who animation, which in itself is amusing.) It carries on in this way through to the beginning of the "Auton" trilogy.
Wartime: a UNIT tale about Sergeant Benton as played by John Levene, the first independant Doctor Who spin-off to be released on video was recently reissued ten years after it`s original release.
The inspiration of Keith Barnfather mostly (with significant input form Nicholas Briggs and Mark Ayres amongst others), it was the result of a group of fans being unhappy with what was on TV during that time - this is the sort of thing they wanted to see apparently.

For the time being, these audios are the closest thing we have to an actual Doctor Who series.
They aren't really spin-offs, but they do feature many actors and characters from the series.
They are prohibited from using the Doctor, the companions (by their series name at least), and other such copyrighted BBC characters, but they do use very close parallels.

When they found out it was true, they screamed abuse at the spin doctor.'
The culture of spin, it appears, has now proceeded so far that the organisers of this stupid trick were unable to perceive that it would inevitably reach the newspapers.
It is also a concept which does nothing to address the complaints of Britons that they want to retain their own culture and identity - nor does it address the fact that Britain is now crammed with immigrants who do not accept the concept of government based on liberal western conceptions of society.
