 1963 -880's
The relative success of the Custom 880 Series of large luxury Dodges introduced the last year to fill a gap left by the death of the DeSoto prompted Dodge to offer the 880 Models in two sub-series lines for 1963.
A good example of how far behind the ball the boys at the Dodge division were can be seen by the lack of details on the 880 models on their advertising campaign even for the 63 model year.
All 880 Models, whether designated Custom or straight 880's were powered by a large V-8 engine.

 1962 -880's
The Custom 880 series was introduced to the Dodge line-up in mid-year 1962 this was to give Dodge a 'big' car and to fill a gap left by the demise of the Desoto which produced it's last vehicle on November 30, 1960, just 47 days into production of the 1961 specification models.
The Custom 880's for 1962 were a mixture of 1962 Chrysler body with the front end from a 61 Dodge.
This meant that Dodge had to quickly "throw" together a larger car for 62, no mean feat when they normally had a 2-3 year development period for the new models.

the Dodge Monaco - history and car information
The Custom 880 was dropped in '66 and the Monaco line expanded to offer most of the former Custom 880 body styles (all except the convertible and 6-window four door sedan).
The Monaco was most readily distinguished from lesser C-body Dodges by its unique taillight treatment, a tradition that continued as long as there were C-body Monacos.
A Monaco 500 two door hardtop was introduced to take the place of the original Monaco at this time, accompanied again by a Canada-only Monaco 500 convertible.

All Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge, Jeep, Imperial, and Eagle rear wheel drive body designations
The C body may date from 1961 or 1962 in the Chrysler models and the Dodge Custom 880, though Chrysler considers the C body to have begun in 1965 with the unit-body construction.
The Imperial was actually its own division, like Dodge and Plymouth, for most of its life, though it shared basic Chrysler chassis (with substantial trim and powertrain differences in many years).
Opinion is divided on whether the Imperial was a Y body during its unit-body years; Mike Sealey also noted that his 1965 Imperial “showed a vague outline of a 1964-66 Imperial, and ‘Y-BODY’ in boldface capital letters.” The differences were mainly in trim and fine powertrain points.

The Imperial was officially a Y body rather than a J body, according to John Capron: “As I recall it was actually identified as a Y body, even though it obviously had a great deal in common with the J body.
