Dog breeding - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dog breeding is the vocation of mating carefully selected specimens of the same breed to reproduce specific, consistently replicable qualities and characteristics.
Such registries are not the exclusive province of show dogs, as is sometimes thought; the clubs of working dogs also maintain records of their dogs’ lineage.
Snuppy, the first cloned dog, shows that it is possible to produce a dog that is the genetic twin of another dog, although it is still difficult and expensive to do so.

The breeding of dogs is an undertaking not to be taken lightly.
Remember also, that the dog that you choose needs to be registered with the same registry that your dog is. Registries will not register a litter of puppies unless both parents are registered with their registry.
Most stud dog owners will also require a current brucellosis test to be done shortly before the bitch is bred, and usually like to have the bitch come to them around the 7th to 10th day of her heat cycle.

The breeding of dogs was inadvertently outlawed when an animal control law was re-titled during a 1982 reorganization of the city’s municipal code, according to Wesley Moore, the city animal control services officer.
Moore noted that dog breeding has taken place during the ban and that prosecution has been extremely rare: one illegal breeding charge in the past 27 years, he said.
Approximately 20% of the 370 dog bites reported last year — the largest proportion — were attributed to pit bulls or pit bull mixes, Moore said.

Those included micro-chipping the dogs that are permitted to breed as a way of keeping track of them, requiring spaying or neutering of dogs whose owners are in violation of the breeding ordinance, and requiring that permitted dogs meet AKC breeding standards.
