 USS Dogfish SS-350
Dogfish (SS-350) was launched 27 October 1945 by Electric Boat Co., Groton, Conn.; sponsored by Mrs.
She was overhauled and extensively modernized at Philadelphia Naval Shipyard from August 1947 to April 1948, and then served in experimental projects as well as normal operations at New London.
She cruised to Scotland, England, and France between 4 February and 3 April 1949 and joined in a convoy exercise off Cape Hatteras in February and March 1952, and operated along the east coast and in the Caribbean during the next 3 years.

Dogfish sailed out of New London on local duties and cruised to the Caribbean and Bermuda.
Dogfish sailed from New London 1 March 1955 for her first tour with the 6th Fleet in the Mediterranean, returning to her home port 6 June.
She called at Halifax, Nova Scotia, from 4 to 14 June 1956 during NATO Operation "New Broom." On 8 November she stood by and fought the fires on the trawler Agda during local operations out of New London.

He next put the aircraft carrier USS VALLEY FORGE (CV 45) into commission then, without the benefit of submarine school, duty on board USS CABEZON (SS 334).
From Cabezon he went to USS CAIMAN (SS 323) for five years followed by duty aboard USS CHIVA (SS 341).
The master chief then served as COB on USS DOGFISH (SS 350) and USS BERGALL (SSN 667) before serving his final tour as command master chief for Submarine School.

After graduation from the Naval Academy in 1940, Burke served in the battleships West Virginia (BB-48) and North Carolina (BB-55); he was in the first crew of “The Showboat.” After Submarine School he served combat duty in the Flying Fish (SS-229) and after the war commanded the Guardfish (SS-217).
Subsequent duty was in the submarine tender Howard W. Gilmore (AS-16), in the Bureau of Naval Personnel, and as executive officer of the Dogfish (SS-350).
He commanded the submarine Sablefish (SS-303), served in the presidential yacht Williamsburg (AGC-369) until she was decommissioned in 1955, and commanded the destroyer Harold J. Ellison (DD-864).

On 3 January 1960, the destroyer sailed from Newport in company with her squadron and Wright (CVL-49) for hunter/killer exercises along the east coast and in the vicinity of Bermuda.
The following month, she conducted antisubmarine warfare (ASW) exercises with Dogfish (SS-350) out of Newport News, Va., before returning to that port for a brief yard availability.
The ship next returned north to Newport for a tour of duty with the Operational Development Force detachment during which her division tested ASW tactics in company with Saipan (CVL-48) along the coast of Newfoundland and in the waters around Iceland.
