		This movie was rated R by the MPAA "for strong language including sex-related dialogue, violence, crude humor and some drug content." This article needs to be cleaned up to conform to a higher standard of quality.
		However, in the case of "Dogma", it seems that Smith focused more on the religious bantering at the expense of keeping the audience interested-- the metaphysical and religious rhetoric overpower everything else in the film, and the result is very drawn-out and dry.

	Laramie Movie Scope: Dogma
		The movie, while critical of the church, argues Papal edicts are valid, but at the same time tries to argue no one denomination or religion is better than any other.
		The movie does try to tackle the issue of the great discrepancy between the wrathful, violent, jealous God of the Old Testament, as opposed to the God of love in the New Testament.
		The movie seems to argue we are born with a purpose, although that purpose is often hard to see.

		I did not find this movie remotely offensive at all; I did wince slightly at the buddy Christ but that was not to make FUN of Christ, if anything it poked fun at organized religion taking God out of things and focusing more on their own self-righteousness.
		This movie also makes you think about religion until I saw it I never even thought about whether or not Jesus had brothers and sisters, so this was a very good movie that keeps you coming back for more.
		People who can say that sort of thing about a movie are the sort of people who burned innocent old women in the witch trials and they genuinely scare me. And yes, this movie did have its flaws (editing, dialogue a bit stiff at a few points) but it was very good.

		Thanks to all the is-it-or-isn't-it-blasphemy controversy surrounding "Dogma," writer-director Kevin Smith has added a tongue-in-cheek disclaimer to the opening of this renegade ribbing of the Catholic church that is so amusing ("...God has a sense of humor, just look at the platypus") it will have audiences in stitches even before the first line of dialogue.
		In fact, "Dogma" is ultimately a subversive celebration of religious conviction, and Smith is deliberately provocative with his message because he wants to force his audience to set aside preachy preconceptions and knee-jerked judgementality before this can become clear.
		But while "Dogma" will almost certainly seem vile to conservatives and fundamentalists, for those with an open mind and a sense of humor that considers little to be off-limits, this movie may very well be a revelation (please pardon the pun!).

		Dogma isn't Smith's best film, but it is certainly his most ambitious, and I've got to tell you it really made me think as well as laugh.

		Continuing on the 'even number' curse is Smith's latest film "Dogma", the so-called 'fourth part' to his 'Jersey Trilogy'.
		However, they discover a loophole in Catholic dogma in which by passing through the archway of a New Jersey cathedral they will be absolved of all their sins and thus be able to re-enter heaven.
		Unfortunately, aside from the theological issues that it tackles, "Dogma" is not as well written or brilliantly executed as "Clerks" or "Chasing Amy".

		Kevin Smith's movies are the epitome of film geekdom, with dialogue that's riddled with references to movies (especially "Star Wars"), comic books, and pop culture, Kevin Smith is film geek royalty.

		Clerks is one of my favourite movies of all time and was I in the queue to go see this when I had heard about the subject matter I was even more excited.
		The movie also feels like it has been hacked to bits in places, could this be because in his other movies it wouldn't have been that hard to cut stuff as there wasn't that much of a plot holding it together.
		Also there is a ridiculous cameo by Alanis Morrissette at the end of the movie, which I personally feel is because Kevin fancies the pants of her.
