Dokdo and Takeshima is one of several names used to describe disputed islets in the Sea of Japan currently controlled by South Korea, but also claimed by Japan (where they are known as Takeshima).
Usando is drawn to the west of Ulleungdo (Dokdo is to the east of Ulleungdo).
In June 2005, a South Korean official guideline demanded that Dokdo be neither be referred to in its individual elements or as a whole as ‘islands’, ‘islet(s)’ or ‘rock(s)’, but in the singular form ‘island’ “to reflect the island character of Dokdo as well as Dongdo [and] Seodo”

Dokdo has already been designated natural prevention district in 1982 and special area in 2000, but based on a series of reports that the small island is suffering from erosion and partial collapse, the ministry has decided to conduct a feasibility study, starting in 2003.
The sea area around Dokdo is not only a treasure house of marine resources for many kinds of fishes such as walleye and cuttlefish, but also the refuge or rest place for fisher boats thanks to its location in the center of the East Sea.
Dokdo is a volcanic island composed of hardened lava which is believed to have come from the bottom of the East Sea 2000 meters below.

Dokdo was first registered on charts in Europe after a French expedition under the leadership of Jean F.G. Perouse travelled to the East Sea/Sea of Japan in May of 1787, naming Ullung Island as "Dagelet", for a French astrologer, and Dokdo as "Boussole", after the name of one of the ships on the expedition.
With Dokdo´s territorial status yet to be determined by a peace treaty between Japan and the allied powers, U.S. authorities in Japan decided to use the island as a bombing range.

Dokdo is part of WikiProject Japan, a project to improve all Japan-related articles.
That is not to say that the name of the islets are subject to the big lie, just that there are an awful lot of pages generated by people with a political partisan axe to grind which distort what would be a very low count without the political interest.
It is simply ridiculous to state that the word "administer" is NPOV and should not be used in Dokdo article while it has been used for years in Senkaku islands article.

At the time that the government of the Republic of Korea was established in 1948, Dokdo was also transferred to Korean control from the U.S. military government in accordance with international law.
Therefore, Dokdo is clearly the territory of the Republic of Korea, both historically and by modern international law.

I was astounded to learn that the Japanese first recognized Korea's title to Dokdo in the late 19th century, but then changed their position when they understood that Korea could do nothing Japanese aggression.
He was probably the first to publish the truth of the Dokdo issue using scholarly and well-reasoned arguments on the internet in English.
He also states that another name for Jukdo was "Dokdo." This, together with the longitude and latitude coordintates mentioned above, show that "Dokdo" was not referring to the Japanese island of Takeshima, but to the Korean island of Jukdo, just off the eastern coast of Ullung-do.

The most recent name of the island, Dokdo was first used in 1906 in 『Magistrate of Uleung county's report』by magistrate of Uleung county, Shim Heung-Taek and 『Maecheonyarok』by patriot, Hwang Hyeon in the end of Joseon Dynasty.
Dokdo became the territory of Korea when Usanguk was annexed to Silla in 512(the 13th year of king Jizeung).
Thus, 'Dokdo' was written in Chinese characters according to phonetic transcription of it and 'Seokdo(Dolseom)' was written in Chinese characters according to its literal meaning, a "rock island".

The Dokdo Riders claim that they are going to ride around the world to tell people about Dokdo and try to get them to care about the issue and to see Dokdo as Korean territory.

The timing cannot be any any worse - a mass movement to expose pro-Japanese Koreans has been going on in South Korea and Japan's claim to the island is adding fuel to the movement and not helping their stooges in Korea.
Japanese Foreign Minister Yukihiko Ikeda has stated in a nationally televised Nihon news conference that Dokdo is clearly part of our territory from the viewpoint of history and international laws, and I find South Korea's action (to build a wh arf on the island) extremely regrettable.

Although Dokdo has appeared in calendars from the Korean Travel Bureau, this is the first time it has appeared in a publication directly controlled by the government.
When Korea ran its first flight of a converted F-15 (dubbed the ‘K-16′) they chose to fly over Dokdo - for no other reason than to provoke the Japanese, and perhaps to ‘bravely’ sabre rattle at the Japanese that have stated that they will only use peaceful means to get Takeshima (Dokdo) back.

But then again, SF treaty although it doesn't specifically mention Dokdo does make it clear that territories gained by Japan during its imperial conquests are to be given back in which case, 1905 claim on Takeshima would be invalid.
Dokdo is an island where it belongs to Korea while Takeshima is an island where it is a located near Japan.
Dokdo is just a rock formation not producing bamboos but was a convenient place for Japanese fishermen becauase it's on the route to Ulleungdo.
