  NES Player - Doki Doki Panic: Special Feature
Doki Doki Panic, developed by company called Fuji TV, is a marvelous gem of a video game originally made for Nintendo's Famicom Disk Add-on in 1987.
Doki Doki had the makings of being a full-fledged classic: unique physics that depended on the choosen character, bizarre enemies and locales, and some very, VERY fun game-play.
Further observation brings us to the Doki Doki logo, the "Fami-Disk guy" Nintendo character on the bottom right on the blue portion, and another picture logo of what I assume is of Doki's creators on the left, middle, white part of the label.

It should be noted that although Japan eventually got the Americanized version of Doki Doki Panic in the form of Super Mario USA, the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2 was never released in its original, 8-bit NES cartridge form outside of its native country.
The save feature was also taken out of the NES version of Super Mario Bros. 2, due to limitation of the NES system compared to the Famicom Disk System (battery-backup was also very expensive during those days), but it was restored in the Super Mario Collection/Super Mario All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros. 2.
In Doki Doki Panic, one must beat the entire game once with each character to view the ending.

If in Doki Doki Panic the main characters were an Arabian family, in the Super Mario Bros 2 conversion that family would be turned into Mario, Luigi, Toad and The Princess.
In Doki Doki Panic, also, the blue dressed witch starts the game a world ahead, and you can repeat the phases so many times as you want once you have finished them.
Lives in SMB 2 are mushrooms, however in DDP are the character faces and what is shown depends of with what character are you playing.

Entre Doki Doki Panic et ce dernier on peut d'ailleurs remarquer que les équipes se sont bien agrandies.
Bien sûr, le fait que l'on ne puisse pas courir dans Doki Doki Panic en appuyant sur B comme on le peut dans tous les Mario 2D change énormément de choses et alourdit le contrôle de manière significative, même si ce n'est pas la seule raison.
Doki Doki Panic est un très bon jeu mais imparfait, ce qu'il y a de remarquable, c'est comment quelques changements bien placés permettent de l'élever à des hauteurs insoupçonnées.

If someone came up to you and asked if you had played Doki Doki Panic, you would probably just shrug and say no. Now if someone came up to you and asked if you played Mario 2 in NES it would have likely been a different scenario.
DDP is actually quite a bit harder then the US Super Mario Bros 2 (aka Super Mario Bros “USA”, released in several different forms in Japan) due to some slight differences in each characters abilities.
Yes, Doki Doki Panic is a Nintendo game, and the reason why they Released it as Super Mario Bros 2 in the US was (I'm guessing) to increase sales.

This is a quick look at Doki Doki Panic, the game that was made into the US version of super mario brothers 2.
Frankly, I think it was a change for the better, the real version of mario 2 was just a rehash and Doki Doki Panic was far less refined than the smb2 that we know.

One of the more positive gameplay additions that the game carried over from Doki Doki Panic well is the ability to play as four different characters.
Doki Doki Panic was never a truly exceptional platformer to begin with, in fact, it wasn't even a good platformer either.
Visually, Mario Bros 2 is not bad, but the Doki Doki arabian backdrop seems really feels out of place in contrast with the Mario themed character sprites.

That's why Nintendo assumed that if they slapped Mario into Doki Doki Panic, it would be a smash.
When I played Doki Doki Panic, I noticed a few differences, including the characters being different and a few of the items having been changed.

I think what he means my rip off is that they took Doki Doki and completely changed it to be Mario 2 for America..
The sales were terrible in Japan when you compare it to Doki Doki Panic and Nintendo has developed plenty of games that could be considered more or as difficult as the original SMB2.
And since you think DDP is a better game then the real SMB2 (which has since been released in NA), I don't see how you can claim SMB2US is a rip-off when neither an idea was stolen, or consumers were cheated.
