Dokken was comprised of founder Don Dokken on vocals, George Lynch on lead guitars, Jeff Pilson on bass and Mick Brown on drums.
Dokken was born in the late 1970s when guitarist George Lynch and drummer Mick Brown from the group Xciter teamed up with Don Dokken on vocals and Peter Baltes as a temporary bassist to record Back in the Streets with Carerre Records.
Juan Croucier left Dokken in 1982 to join the band Ratt and was replaced by Jeff Pilson who became their first official bassist.

This is my fourth Dokken concert, second since they reunited, and I don't know if it was the House of Blues inferior sound quality, but this was not their best night.
Lynch is one great metal guitarist, although his solos got lost in a bad sound mix where the bass and drums were over-amplified and the vocals and guitar were lost in the crowd.
That, I thought, was too bad, because Dokken, to me, was always one of those bands that relied on Don's voice, and George's guitar to lead the crowd through.

Lead singer Don Dokken can still hit many (not all) of the notes, even though when he's seen in close-up, he looks far too old to keep singing songs with titles like "Breaking the Chains" and "Tooth and Nail" much longer.
For fans, this DVD is definitely worthwhile: in addition to the concert (which has been remixed into pummeling 5.1 Dolby surround), there are two "unplugged" acoustic numbers, about 15 minutes' worth of interviews with the current band members, and several paintings and illustrations by the lead singer.
These colorful sci-fi fantasies are pretty much worthless as art but sure to make Dokken fans ecstatic to see their hero entering Roger Dean territory.

Beach's guitar replaces the piano and Dokken growls away, and the awesome melodic vocal harmonies are specially dedicated to Kelly Gray.

Dokken have come back strong with this, their first release without guitar hero George Lynch, and ninth overall.
This album fuses the best elements of Dokken past and present: the more mature song structures of the 90's albums, combined with the frenetic headbanger metal of the classic 80's material.
Drummer "Wild" Mick Brown takes a stab at lead vocals on the raunchy feelgood rocker "Crazy Mary Goes Round." You may remember that Wild Mick sang lead once before on the One Live Night album, his version of "Tooth and Nail" was certainly a highlight of that excellent disc.

I was prepared for a slow, laid-back, emotionless Don Dokken but the man on stage was even worse than my expectations.
However, if Dokken played in the same venue next week, I wouldn't go but if Crystal Ball played there, I would most definitely be there.
And I guess this is very sad for Dokken and more than flattery for the young Swiss guys.

Tonight, however, Don Dokken and crew (including guitarist Reb Beach, who replaced George Lynch) were in fine form, joking around, laughing up a storm between songs, really enjoying the music as they played and reveled in the response from the crowd.
Dokken re-gained some of my respect this evening, and the audience loved every moment.
Dokken plans on releasing a live VHS/DVD/CD and, if it's closer to this House of Blues performance than previous, more sober, Dokken shows, it should be a winner.
