The island of Dokos is a small rocky projection off the southern coast of the Argolid between the islands of Hydra and Spetses.
The settlement on Dokos is the subject of a recent study (Kyrou 1995) which argues that it figured significantly in a story told in a narration of Paul of Monemvasia (saec.

The underwater archaeological excavation at Dokos carried out by the Hellenic Institute of Marine Archaeology from 1989 to 1992 under the direction of the archaeologist George Papathanasopoulos was the first full scale excavation of an ancient wreck in Greece which also employed the most up-to-date technological methods of the time.
The island of Dokos owes its name to the Dokos family of Hydriot ship owners, to whom it belonged at the end of the 18th century.
AD an actual castle town was formed in the district of the Kastro; and at the time of the national uprising in 1821 the island was used as a naval station for the Hydriot fleet.

The great quantity of Early Helladic II pottery from the Dokos cargo site is important not only for the variety of its types and sizes, but especially because it constitutes the only possibly closed find of this nature with EH II pottery hitherto known from the Aegean.
The picture of the underwater site at Dokos is further clouded by the presence (although very limited) among the EH pottery of plain and decorated Mycenaean sherds representing the three main phases of the Mycenaean period: Late Helladic I, II and III.
The projected 1992 campaign at Dokos, which will include a full-scale geological and geomorphological survey of the area, is expected to shed further light on the nature of the whole site.

 OSU Excavations at Isthmia
Scholars, from both East and West, have long speculated where the "castle of the Lord of Damala" might have been, and various places were suggested, most of them in the area of Monemvasia, for example the islands of Kythera or Antikythera.
In 1995, however, Adonis Kyrou, publisher of one of Athens' daily newspapers, presented an article which argued that the resting place of the martyrs was on the island of Dokos, not far from the tourist island of Hydra in the Gulf of Argos.
Our major focus was the recording of the walls of the castle itself, but we also were able to record interesting details about a small church located on a saddle below the castle and to the south.

Sometimes he is not able to draw it out; he can see where the dokos is, that is all; but if his spirit were stronger than the one who put it there, he could draw it out and cure the patient.
Every dokos can be extracted from a sick man's body by the aid of a spirit stronger than the one who put it in.
