		Dolly Sods is an area of high elevation wind-swept plains on the Allegheny Plateau.
		During World War II, the Dolly Sods was used for military exercises, and some live mortar shells remain buried in the soil.
		The upside is that the map accurately shows the location of the trail routes in the Wilderness, including routes not typically known to the hiking public (including stretches of the "new" area acquired by the USFS north of the Wilderness proper).

		Nearly 20 miles of excellent trails are present within Dolly Sods North. The established trails connect directly to, and provide a perfect and logical complement to the DSW* trail system. When the trail systems of the two area are combined, there is a total of roughly 50 miles of trails to explore.
		One of the main draws of the Dolly Sods area is the beautiful rugged terrain and scenery.
		Despite the inevitable drawbacks of popularity, Dolly Sods North is an area that should be known and used, so long as the area is managed properly. At this time the current status and future of DSN is still a bit unclear.

		The 10,215-acre Dolly Sods Wilderness in West Virginia is part of the Monongahela National Forest.
		Dolly Sods Wilderness and Dolly Sods North were both selected for study based on findings by Huntington District that ordnance remained there.
