The registry for.us domain space, administered by the Information Sciences Institute at the University of California, is currently administered as a locality based hierarchy in which second level domain space is allocated to states and U.S. territories.
Likewise, a wide range of credentialed domains are possible, i.e., domains in which the registrant warrants that it meets some standard or in which a third party authority (e.g., a trade organization, a licensing agency, a bank) certifies the identity or characteristics of the registrant.
It may be desirable to delegate such domains to a certifying entity, or to an entity that sets and maintains the standard in the case of self-certifying registrants.

 rfc1034.txt
Note that the "cuts" in the name space may be in different places for different classes, the name servers may be different, etc. These rules mean that every zone has at least one node, and hence domain name, for which it is authoritative, and all of the nodes in a particular zone are connected.
NS the authoritative name server for the domain PTR a pointer to another part of the domain name space SOA identifies the start of a zone of authority] class which is an encoded 16 bit value which identifies a protocol family or instance of a protocol.
A name server may cache structure or set information about any part of the domain tree, but in general a particular name server has complete information about a subset of the domain space, and pointers to other name servers that can be used to lead to information from any part of the domain tree.

 MF Bliki: AnemicDomainModel
There are objects, many named after the nouns in the domain space, and these objects are connected with the rich relationships and structure that true domain models have.
In essence the problem with anemic domain models is that they incur all of the costs of a domain model, without yielding any of the benefits.
The anemic domain model is really just a procedural style design, exactly the kind of thing that object bigots like me (and Eric) have been fighting since our early days in Smalltalk.

 Linux.ie :: All About DNS
The domain namespace is organised in a similar structure to the UNIX filename space.
As the server already knows the.ie domain servers (it picked this up last time) it sends a request off to these servers asking for www.tcd.ie - the servers will then respond with a list of servers for tcd.ie, which will in turn be queried and hopefully will return an answer.
Once a domain is delegated, the administrators of the domain are responsible for making changes within that domain.

Zvon - RFC 2163 [Using the Internet DNS to Distribute MIXER Conformant Global Address Mapping (MCGAM)] - The domain space for X.400 O/R name addresses
The construction of the new domain space trees will follow the same procedures used when organising at first the already existing DNS space: at first the information will be stored in a quite centralised way, and distribution of authority will be gradually achieved.
The X.400 O/R name space does not usually fit into the usual domain name space, although there are a number of similarities; a new name structure is thus needed to represent it.
To ensure the correct functioning of the DNS system, the new X.400 name structure must be hooked to the existing domain name space in a way which respects the existing name hierarchy.

Indispensable to homosapians today, it is important to remember that ‘what goes up must come down.’ Inevitably domain registration is often misunderstood by the upper echelons of progressive service sector organisations, trapped by their infamous history.
Of paramount importance to any study of domain registration within its context, is understanding the ideals of society.
The subject of domain registration has been covered intensively by the world press over the past decade.

 01-04-08.doc
The relationships between individual elements within the entire space domain, regardless of in which “layer” the element may reside, will be captured in the detailed reference architecture as presented in section 4 of this document.
To that end the Space DTF reference architecture was derived by harmonizing the perspective of the space system domain as one of closed loop control implemented within, or in conjunction to, a distribute information management system.
First is to recognize the breadth of existing standards available to direct the implementation of space systems; and second, to isolate the services unique to space systems that require some level of standardization to meet the goals of the Space DTF and the space community at large.

 <<<Domain Names>>> Domain names new & used
The initial cost of the domain name this may be being bought from a company or individual then this is whatever price you agree with them.
Domain names are selling at the rate of 1 every 6 seconds, So the longer you leave it the smaller the chance of getting the name you want!
A used Domain name has more value because it has been used by another business on the internet and is normally listed in search engines like Yahoo or Google.

Meeting Growing Demands of Domain Name Space
ICANN and the domain registrar community should strongly support and encourage this use of the third-level domain name space.
The use and promotion of a domain as an accrediting device or to convey some status to the general public is a bad idea and creates somewhat of a domain name class jealousy where only the most connected, technically savvy, domain name registrants will end up with the most desirable new domains.
The answer is that these types of domain names are an invaluable resource to the domain name industry and the industry should encourage the use of them as much as possible.

 Examination Guide NO. 2-99
In analyzing whether a domain name mark is likely to cause confusion with another pending or registered mark, the examining attorney must consider the marks as a whole, but generally should accord little weight to the TLD portion of the mark.
A domain name is usually preceded in a URL by "http://www." The "http://" refers to the protocol used to transfer information, and the "www" refers to World Wide Web, a graphical hypermedia interface for viewing and exchanging information.
Similarly, substituting one TLD for another in a domain name mark, or adding or deleting a "dot" or "http://www." or "www." to a domain name mark is generally permitted.

Space-Time Domain Decomposition for Parabolic Problems - Giladi, Keller (ResearchIndex)

The asymptotic convergence rate is superlinear, and it is governed by the diffusion of the error across the overlap between subdomains.

ICANN vs. ICANNWatch: An Interview with Opponents in the Domain Space Playoffs
In the domain space right now, there are very few top-level domains, so there's room for only one McDonald's, for example.
I know there are some services offering preregistration of.web and other domains, but because there has been no decisions at all about what new top-level domain names will come out, preregistration is probably too premature right now.
Basically, before we release the new domains, we have to figure out how to make sure it's not a giant land rush, where everybody runs out and gets their.com domain names in the new domains.

 20030915-2824.html
Recently, Register.com lost a class action lawsuit where Michael Zurakov was upset that Register.com pointed a newly registered domain to a "coming soon" web page.
I guess you can argue no one was actually harmed by Register.com's actions, but those involved in the class action suit did own the rights to the domain names.
Why should the registrar get some free publicity from a domain owned by someone else?

I am now pleased to recognize CIRA as the administrator of the.ca domain space.
We continue to encourage reliance on market forces and private sector leadership in the management of the.CA domain space.

An Interactive System for Showing Texture Changes in Its Domain Space
In this paper, I will describe a new interactive system that shows the user how textures, such as wood, marble and clouds, are affected by the parameters in its domain space.
Conventional and current interactive systems for showing texture changes in its domain space do not support the mechanism of dynamic display.
Textures are visual patterns on the surfaces of objects, and they play an important role in the field of computer graphics and image processing.

 Enhancement of .us Domain
The.us domain is the "national" or "country code" top level domain (ccTLD) assigned to the United States for domain name registration and is currently managed as a locality based hierarchy in which second-level domain space is allocated to States and US territories.
WASHINGTON, DC -- The U.S. Commerce Department is inviting the public to submit comments in paper or in electronic form on issues involving the future expansion and administration of the.us domain space.
These include how domain names should be assigned under.us, the type of entity that should administer.us, and the role of the states and localities in domain name registration, among others.

 RFC .us Domain Space
Currently, second-level domain space is designated for states and U.S. territories, and the usTLD space is further subdivided into localities.
Many parties in previous consultations have suggested that the current usTLD space should be expanded by creating opportunities for registration directly at the second level and/or at the third level under specified second level domains.
The.us domain is the country code top level domain ("ccTLD") of the Internet domain name system ("DNS") that corresponds to the United States.

 Exploring the Domain Name Space
In order to understand how a DNS server works, you should be familiar with what is called the domain name space.
As you might guess, the domain name system is fairly complicated; in fact, there are entire books on the subject.
The great thing about the domain name system is that no single organization is responsible for updating it.

Internet, domain names, ICANN > Domain Name Space About To Burst Open > October 31, 2000
The organization that governs the technical administration of the Internet is on the verge of deciding which new top-level domain names will be added to the.com,.net, and.org name space.
Internet stakeholders are facing a shortage of generic top-level domain names as it becomes more difficult to come up with new short and simple Web addresses with the current suffixes.
More new domain names are expected to grow the Internet and perhaps begin to categorize online addresses like "yellow pages" books do for offline addresses and phone numbers.

FutureQuest Community - Confused about the domain space
It takes 4Kb of hard drive space to save that 430byte file, as a block is the smallest unit of storage the filesystem works with...
And well I do not have 1 single file on my domain that is more than 1 mb I have millions of files but most of them are really just 1kb.
On the domain disk usage part it tells me that it is using 98mbs which is 48 above what I can take.

 ICANN Approves .eu Domain Space
The sunrise period is the time before the public launch of a new domain extension when trademark holders can register for a domain name in advance.
They are two of four proposed domain extensions working through the negotiation phase at the organization.
