Domicile (astrology) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In astrology, a planet's domicile (also ruling planet, rulership, or less commonly house) is the strongest essential dignity of a planet.
Conversely, Saturn, the most distant (and hence the "coldest") of the planets known to ancients, was accorded the rulership of Aquarius and Capricorn, the signs opposite Leo and Cancer, respectively.
Most astrologers practicing Vedic astrology (Jyotish) only use the traditional rulership system and have been doing so consistently for quite some time.

In astronomy and astrology, Cancer (Latin for crab, symbol, Unicode ♋) is one of the twelve constellations of the zodiac.
It is the domicile of the Moon or "House of the Moon", and this concept might originate from an ancient belief that Moon was located here at the creation of the world.

Another consideration concerning domicile dignities is that in astrological tradition, the planets from Mercury to Saturn were considered more strongly domiciled in one of their two ruled signs than the other in day-time charts, and in the opposite one in night-time charts, as the following table reproduced from DeVore's Encyclopaedia of Astrology shows:
An essentially debilitated planet is also relieved somewhat by 'joy' when a planet that is the domicile ruler of a sign of either of the elements as the signs it rules itself is posited in a sign of either of these two elements.
