LeBlanc was appointed Governor General on February 8, 1995, the first Acadian and the first person from the Maritimes to hold that post.
LeBlanc's term as The Queen's Vice-Regal Representative in Canada was considered to have been "low key", and largely uneventful, especially in comparison to that of his successor, Adrienne Clarkson.
His son, Dominic LeBlanc was likewise a member of the liberal party, and continued to work for the Prime Minister's office.

I have been doing research on my ancestors for several years and as a member of the South-Eastern Branch of the Genealogy Society, I was compelled to place a lot of my research on hold as a result of the 1901 census records not being released to the public.
LeBlanc being new to your constituency, Hillsborough, I have taken the liberty to ask you as an elected Member of parliament if you will vote FOR or AGAINST a bill supporting the release to the public of the census records 92 years after they are recorded.
My mother was born a LeBlanc from the Buctouche area of N.B. I'm trying to trace her roots and I hope that you will be in favour of the release of the 1911 census.

It's a tough task for Screamin' Dervish Vautour, however hard she's worked on behalf of her constituents, EI, etc. Her party flip murks up the issue considerably; though remember that if the PC's have a skimpy record here, NDP was even skimpier before 1997.
LeBlanc will capitalize on his Trudeau connection and the fact he has stayed around but he is still regarded as a rich come from away boy in a disadvantaged area.
Tom Taylor of the Alliance will get the gun law support and some former COR support in Petitcdiac, not to mention opponents of tolls which he is identified with in that part of the riding.
