Domitien Ndayizeye (born May 2, 1953 in Murango, Kayanza Province) is the former president of Burundi.
In 2004, Ndayizeye proposed a draft constitution to the Parliament prior to it being put to the electorate in referendum later in the year.
On 21 August 2006, Ndayizeye was arrested in Bujumbura in relation to his alleged role in an attempted coup earlier in the year.

"Domitien is stuck in the middle, between the rebels who have stepped up their attacks ahead of the handover, and the army and Buyoya, who are going to keep him under close scrutiny," a foreign diplomat in Burundi has said.
At the beginning of 1995, Ndayizeye joined the Burundi secret services, but in February of the same year he was jailed for attempting to a murder a Tutsi youth movement leader and participating in rebel Hutu groups.

After the handover of the presidency to Ndayizeye many were concerned that Buyoya might have used the deadlock between the rebels and the government to continue to rule.
Soon after his inauguration, Ndayizeye included the leaders of breakaway factions from both groups in the cabinet, but these men lack the necessary influence and military power to bring a final end to the conflict.
Ndayizeye is likely to respect the terms of the accord, especially those which will help reassure the Tutsi minority and reduce the degree of mistrust across the Hutu-Tutsi divide.
