  Motorcycle Hall of Fame: Doug Domokos
Domokos was born in Niles, Michigan on December 31, 1955.
Domokos’ success spawned a host of copycat performers, but one thing that set Domokos apart was his innovative stunts and flair for the dramatic.
Domokos tragically died on November 26, 2000, in an ultralight aircraft accident in Murrieta, California.

 Boffins develop a 'new shape' called Gomboc - Technology - smh.com.au
Domokos and a former student, Peter Varkonyi who is now at Princeton University in the United States, took up the challenge and created a shape they named Gomboc which mimics a turtle's shell.
Domokos and his wife spent hours scouring beaches to collect pebbles as part of a learning process to understand shapes and their mathematical dynamics.
Domokos said that by shaving off bits of a Gomboc shape it was possible to increase the number of equilibria.

While Domokos was on his honeymoon in Greece, he tested 2,000 pebbles to see if he could find one that would right itself, but none did.
Now, Domokos and Várkonyi are measuring turtles to see if any of them are truly self-righting, or whether the turtles need to kick their legs a bit to flip themselves back upright.

Eventually, Domokos and his colleagues managed to prove mathematically that for any flat shape, there are at least two stable balance points and at least two unstable balance points.
As Várkonyi and Domokos mention in their article, a 19-sided polyhedron with only one stable face was described by Conway and Guy in 1969.
