Jeannette was born, at Domremy, of Jacques d'Arc and Isabelle, his wife, laborers, good and true Catholics, honest folk and worthy, according to their ability, but not rich.
The Seigneurs of Domremy and their ladies at least, the Lady Beatrix, wife of Pierre de Bourlement, and the said Pierre accompanied by their daughters, came sometimes to walk round this tree.

Her birthplace in Domremy is southwest of the city of Nancy in the province of Lorraine.
We know that her given name was Jeanne d’Arc and that she lived until 1431, when she was burned at the stake by an inquisition of the church at Rouen.
Domremy holds an annual Joan of Arc Festival on the second weekend of May. It begins on Saturday evening with a religious procession from the basilica on the ridge that winds into town.

LtCol Harbord’s second visit to Domremy occured in early April of 1918, when Harbord was one of a small party accompanying the American Secretary of War Newton Baker on a tour of the American front line.
Charles VII was wasting his time there playing with little dogs and listening to the flattery of courtiers while the British held practically everything in France norht of the Loire, when Jeanne d’Arc heard the voices in the woods of Domremy, and came riding to Chinon to offer her services to the uncrowned king.
Chinon has been a ruin for nearly two hundred years, but one still sees the walls of the room where Jeanne was received by the Dauphin, as she always styled Charles until she had him crowned at Rheims.

The saint was born on the feast of the Epiphany, January 6, 1412, at Domremy, a village in the rich province of Champagne, on the Meuse River in northeast France.
On one occasion, at least, Joan fled with her parents to Neufchatel, eight miles distant, to escape a raid of Burgundians who sacked Domremy and set fire to the church, which was near Joan's home.
One day while she was at work in the garden, she heard a voice, accompanied by a blaze of light; after this, she vowed to remain a virgin and to lead a godly life.
