Percussionist par excellence Don Alias remains best known for his work at the vanguard of the fusion movement, exploring both sides of the jazz-rock equation via contributions to landmark sessions headlined by Miles Davis and Joni Mitchell.
Alias and Perla resurrected Stone Alliance in 1980 with pianist Kenny Kirkland and tenor saxophonist Bob Mintzer, issuing the acclaimed Heads Up; during this time he also worked with Pastorious' new band, Word of Mouth, appearing on its self-titled 1982 Warner Bros. debut LP as well as several subsequent live releases.
Alias and Perla were also collaborating on a joint memoir at the time of the percussionist's sudden death at his Manhattan home on March 28, 2006.

Alias was the first-call percussionist for a host of other artists as well, including the singer Roberta Flack, the alto saxophonist David Sanborn (with whom he toured as recently as February) and the pianist Herbie Hancock.

"Alias" jumped the shark for me the day I was at Starbucks and got to witness Jennifer Garner storm in with her entourage, force her way to the front of the line, and scream at and berate an employee for giving her the wrong flavor coffee the day before.
Alias jumped the shark with the 2003 post-Super Bowl episode, "Phase One," where Sydney and the CIA Fun Bunch dismantled the global terrorist network The Alliance, Sydney made out with her CIA handler and her best friend was killed and replaced with an evil clone.
Alias is a very dynamic show that keeps evolving and doesn't stick with the usual formula of beating a storyline to death before moving on.

Unfortunately, Alias is going to have to be a self-starter again on Sundays, and the insane Practice situation isn't going to help the network's overall standings that night, either.
When Alias is back in first-run, picking up the story after that wild finale, I'm confident the numbers will surge again, at least in the young-adult spectrum that the network and advertisers care about.
ALIAS writers are smart in that I do believe they do read these forums too and take some ideas of the fans and incorporate them in the story!!!

Don knew that I was interested in African rhythms and in Bata in particular.
Before Don's untimely passing, I believe that he was working on releasing some of their live dates on CD for the first time.

The current members of the power trio are Don, drums and percussion, Gene Perla, electric bass, and Mitch Stein, electric guitar.
Ray Barretto, now Don Alias: as a conguero, drummer, and percussionist, these are the guys I look up to.

But Alias seems to be nothing but empty spy-movie cliche with no style whatsoever.
The plots are convoluted to the point of incomprehensiblity, and while the whole everyone's double-crossing everyone else thing is entertaining, the bottom line is that I don't care.
Having never watched Alias -- ever -- I will say that your comments about how it's written are in the same vein of why I absolutely cannot stand Lost.

It also gave Alias the opportunity to work with such heavyweights as conga virtuoso Giovanni Hidalgo, as well as friends Michael Brecker (tenor sax), Randy Brecker (trumpet), Gil Goldstein (piano), Mitch Stein (guitar), Carlos Benavent (bass), Steve Berrios (congas), and Alex Acu'a (drumset).
Not surprisingly, the majority of the songs were written and composed by the bandmembers themselves, and featured congas, timbales, bongos, bata, and hand-held percussion.
