ST. PETERSBURG - The priest and educator chosen as the new principal at St. Petersburg Catholic High School may be familiar to some longtime Tampa Bay residents.
Currently principal at Don Bosco Preparatory High School in Ramsey, N.J., Serio was selected to replace the Rev. Louis Molinelli, who led St. Petersburg Catholic for six years.
Serio will oversee four additional high schools and a middle school under the direction of the Salesian order.

On Sept. 23, Cardinal Roger Mahony concelebrated a Mass of thanksgiving for the all-boys' high school, which has been continually operated and staffed by Salesian brothers and priests as well as members of other religious communities and lay teachers for five decades.
The school liturgy was celebrated in the gym, with the draped altar under one basket and a line of flower petals stretching to a lectern at the other end of the court, where students did the scripture readings.
And the school was the first time that we really got a community of brothers together who outnumbered the priests, because we took care of all the technologies, the shops.
