Yamaha Corporation of America - Don Davis   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Don began writing music when he was twelve, but found his love for the avant-garde during his time in college at UCLA.
Davis' rich, orchestral style meshed perfectly with the tone of the show and he went on to compose forty-six "Beauty and the Beast" scores (winning an Emmy for "A Time To Heal" as well as a nomination for "To Reign In Hell") and achieve great acclaim as one of television's most gifted young composers.
Davis' work incorporates elements of popular music, electronic synthesizer effects, and even a touch of the avant-garde: the orchestral score features three grand pianos, one prepared (a process where all manner of objects are wedged in between the wires of a piano) and two standard.

Give Davis credit for knowing that he was basically out of options and it was time to move on, or risk crippling his problem knee for the rest of his life.
In any case, Davis holds one distinction: He will be remembered as one of the greatest sixth-round steals in NFL draft history, proving again the inexactitude of that particular science.
Davis has worked so hard rehabilitating the past three years that he could get the itch to try one more time after a year away from the game.

The Matrix Reloaded - Music Soundtrack by Don Davis
The familiar sounds and soundscapes established by composer Don Davis in The Matrix are all present and correct, most especially those alternating brass swells which seem to represent the matrix itself.
Davis created the first two tracks "Main Title" and "Trinity Dream" which almost mirror the first track on the soundtrack for the original film, bringing the listener immediately back into the world of The Matrix.
More melodic than the Don Davis sections with a recurring rising motif, this is still very much in keeping with the established Matrix sound with its orchestral Brass and Strings sound.

The Matrix Reloaded - Don Davis
We are treated to 21 minutes of pure Davis and another 15 or so combined with the work of others, much in the manner of David Arnold's collaboration with the Propellerheads on a couple of the cues from Tomorrow Never Dies.
The longest portion of Davis' score, the 17 minute Suite could easily have been assembled from the original album - there are plenty of impressive moments, particularly the biblical, choral finale, but not much that shows a composing expanding greatly on his original conception.
This is staggeringly unsubtle stuff, but Davis and company elicit enough bravura excitement that the listener is sufficiently thrilled by the sheer relentlessness, particularly when the choir, orchestra and synthesiser are trying to drown each other out during Burly Brawl.

Matrix Revolutions - Don Davis   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Davis' basic material needs little introduction, there's the overlapping low brass chords that have become the series' musical trademark and Philip Glass on amphetamines cycling string and brass figures.
Only one cue doesn't feature Davis at all, but In My Head by Pale 3 (whoever they are) is a fairly obnoxious, grungy dance/techno/whatever track, even if it doesn't sound as out of place as it might.
All in all, I'm not sure I'd have wanted Davis to collaborate - he has the ability to do his own electronics as well as anyone else (Danny Elfman, for example), but with more power given to Davis' orchestral score here, the results are exciting, bracing and represent the best in contemporary action scoring.
