Don Kirshner, (April 17, 1934-) once known as The Man With the Golden Ear, is an American song publisher and rock producer; best known for managing songwriting talent to successful groups like The Monkees and The Archies.
Kirshner was hired by the producers of The Monkees to provide hitworthy songs to accompany the TV program, within a demanding timeframe.
Kirshner quickly corralled songwriting talent from his Brill Building stable of writers and musicians to create catchy, engaging tracks which the band could pretend to perform on the show.

Born Donald Kirshner, 17 April 1934, The Bronx, New York City, New York Don Kirshner was quite possibly one of the ten most successful and wealthiest men in the entertainment industry for much of the '60s and '70s.
Kirshner's catalog includes hits by the Shirelles, Little Eva (who died last Friday), the Drifters, the Ronettes, the Crystals and the Shangri-Las, with songs such as "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," "On Broadway", "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" and "The Locomotion".
Kirshner was instrumental in the creation of the Monkees (1966) and the Archies (1969), both highly manufactured, but hugely successful groups, both on record and on TV.

The show was an inspiration to all aspiring musicians, and if there was a Don Kirshner's Rock Concert on TV today maybe the up and coming young musicians would be inspired to learn how to actually PLAY their instrument and write some decent songs.
Kirshner was annoying, but at least he had a very distinctive style.

This is done throughout Sabbath’s Don Kirshner appearance and it seems quite unnecessary given that the crowd seemed genuinely enthusiastic to begin with.
With only a handful of pro-shot clips of the band in the 70’s, the Don Kirshner TV appearance is highly recommended to both collectors and casual fans.

In the days before MTV, this show along with "American Bandstand" and "The Midnight Special" was the only way for most fans of rock and randb fans to see many of their favorite artists without going to a concert.
Despite the boring intros by Don Kirschner (who acted as not only producer, but occasionally as host as well) this was one of the finest teen oriented shows on television.
What made it especially great was that unlike "Bandstand", most of the bands actually performed live and didn't have to resort to the practice of lip synching.
