Don Letts Interview Part 1 - Greg Whitfield
It was a warm September afternoon, the afternoon of September the 11th to be exact, near Notting Hill, and I was headed towards the house of the legendary rebel dread, Don Letts… I knocked on the door, and a smiling Don Letts emerges, wearing his ever-present dark sunglasses.
Don Letts also has a huge book collection; I notice a lot of books on film, which is hardly surprising, since he has produced/directed at least two major films.
Don Letts is the man Frederico Fellini commented on, remarking that he had "the vision of a terrorist" after seeing some of his film work.

 COMMENT FROM DIRECTOR DON LETTS
There could only be one man; Don Letts, former DJ at the legendary Roxy club, ace video director responsible for all the band's promos (including the great London's Calling) and film director.
And the fact that I had a lot of tape in my attic of the band which was 'unseen'." Letts and the Clash had met at the beginning of their respective careers, and the two camps forged an immediate, sympatico bond.
And just when he thought that it was finished, Letts explains; "After the almost impossible task of putting the story of the Clash into a 90 minute programme, the BBC heard of the project, got in contact with Tricia and said that they wanted to screen a 60 minute version".

Punk:Attitude: Directed by Don Letts (Capital Entertainment DVD) | Dusty Wright's Culture Catch   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
To the credit of filmmaker Don Letts, himself a veteran of the original British Punk scene and erstwhile Reggae archivist, his latest documentary, Punk: Attitude, at least tries to be all-inclusive in attempting to encapsulate the amorphous cultural movement.
Letts takes an oral history approach and lets various Punk luminaries -- from former Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones and proto-Gothic chanteuse Siouxsie Sioux through notorious Punk scribe Legs McNeil and ex-Black Flag vocalist/renaissance man Henry Rollins -- gingerly contradict each other in terms of who fired the first shot.
As such, Letts tracks down individuals such as Roger Miret of Agnostic Front, Ray Cappo of Shelter, Keith Morris of the Circle Jerks, Glenn Branca of the Theoretical Girls, and even the super-reclusive James Chance of the Contortions to weigh in on these crucially influential yet comparatively unsung scenes.

 jukeboxgraduate.com: Don Letts' "Punk: Attitude"
For those of you who aren't aware, Don Letts was the DJ at the Roxy in London, the club of the infamous "100 days of punk" at which every band in the UK punk scene in its heyday performed.
Letts operates from the assumption that the audience for the movie will know who the bands are and why they are important, and it doesn't pander; it will be slightly alienating to an outsider but so is punk rock.
Letts has two children, aged 12 and 18, and that was his driving force in making the film: he wanted to communicate more of the sense of the attitude behind the music, not a MTV or VH1 "history of," for the younger generation that is only familiar with the record covers and t-shirts.
