Don Pardo (Dominick George Pardo), born February 22, 1918 in Westfield, Massachusetts, is a legendary radio and television announcer.
Pardo subsequently reprised this role on the recorded version of the song for the original version of Zappa's Zappa in New York album.
Prior to SNL, Pardo made his mark on game shows for NBC as the booming voice of The Price is Right from 1956 until it moved to ABC in 1963.

Don Pardo, the announcer who was the first to ever say, "It can be yours if The Price Is Right," began his voiceover career with the Peacock Network on NBC Radio June 15, 1944.
Initially, Pardo is believed to have been an on-the-hour newscaster for NBC Radio and delivered a number of war bulletins during the latter stages of World War II.
Pardo delivered the bulletin because NBC was scrambling to roll cameras into a makeshift studio for its correspondents to take over the story.

don's been in a couple of movies since the zappa concert, but it looks like the only role he can get is as a game show announcer.
but his name came into public usage when on a particular gameshow (i can't remember which one) the gameshow host would say, "don pardo, tell her what she's won!" ever since then the words and persona of"don pardo" has been fodder for comedians (weird al, amany others), and other popular culture outlets.
frank probably hit on the idea of adding don pardo for the sophisticated narration in the concert(s) during while at nbc for saturday night live.

My pal Dave Mackey reminds us that yesterday marked the 59th anniversary of announcer Don Pardo going to work for what was then (1944) the NBC Radio Network.
To do it well, you have to make it sound easy...and year after year, Pardo has made it sound easy, squeezing awkward copy into tight time slots and sounding enthusiastic about intros and sponsor plugs that must have bored the hell out of him.
They've gotten a little less anal about this in recent years but still sometimes insist that a given voice job be filled by someone from their "approved" list.
