Fairbanks is also excellent as Don Diego, drawing upon his experience in comedy to bring us a vivid portrait of a not so vivid man. Noah Beery gives a delightfully over-the-top performance as the bombastic yet bumbling Sergeant Gonzales.

PlaybillArts: Features: The Power of Don Q
Putting on Don Q, as the ballet's familiarly called, like mounting any of the classic eye-poppers (Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, La Bayadere), takes weeks of pre-planning and rehearsal to make the gargantuan show move as gracefully as lead ballerina Kitri standing in arabesque, snapping open a fan.
She carries a three-inch thick spiral-ringed tome that is Don Q's production bible, replete with her own hand-written notes of every character's move, set and costume designs, and minutiae that document each aspect of the work.
Ballet mistress Louise Lester is responsible for the hypnotic "Dryad Scene." Don Quixote by Cervantes is often called the first modern novel and many rate it as one of the best novels ever written in any language.
The plot and sub-plots are primarily guided by Don Quixote's obsession with knight-errantly, forming acts to chivalry and participating in adventures in a manner he read in such books.
