Don Quixote's insanity is, in part, a form of higher wisdom; in his madness, he sees humble people as noble and elevated and challenges the rich and the powerful, often calling them monsters and villains; ecclesiastics are also targets of the wrath of Don Quixote.
Don Quixote's violence and aggressive methods, on the other hand, identify him with the people of his time and with the madness of the historical past (the Crusades, the adventures against the Turks, etc.)
Don Quixote is blind to the contradictions in his own approach to the correction of the evils of the world; he fights fire with fire and finds himself repeatedly defeated, making things worse for himself and others.

As for the purely cinematic aspect of the movie, it's visually decent (with moments like the opening scene travelling) but never brilliant, and all the performances fall flat, there is no sense of any of the actors becoming their parts despite looking them, they just unconvincingly say their lines without acting them out.
Also, there is no attempt for distinguishing Don Quixote's novel-ridden speech from the common and mundane speech of the other characters: everybody talks in the same style, and everyone ends sounding equally archaic.

In order to celebrate the Fourth Centenary of Don Quixote's publication the city of Seville is organising lectures about the work, concerts with music from that period and an exhibition with paintings of Antonio Muñoz Degrain about Don Quixote.
According to the honorary director of the Prado Museum, Alfonso Pérez Sánchez, this is the first time that the paintings abandon the library, for which they have been restored by Focus-Abengoa.
Pérez also pointed out that the unknown of these paintings' style and the strangeness of the artist, distant to all academy life, almost theosophical and admirer of Wagner, is reflected in these paintings, which don't have to do anything with the cliché about the Man of la Mancha.
