It was opened in 1990, ready for the financially unsuccessful 1991 World Student Games but has since become a profitable centre for athletics in the area.
It is named for the River Don, near which it lies.

In 1996 it was substantially changed in a merger with Don Valley North.

The Task Force to Bring Back the Don is a citizens' group sponsored by the City of Toronto, that works to "bring back" a clean, green and accessible Don River watershed.
His 'blog' is regularly updated with stories and pictures from the Don Valley.
In partnership with the St Lawrence Market Gallery, a new education program on the Don River is being offered to school groups from October 2nd 2004, through to January 30th, 2005.

Leaside is the kingmaker in Don Valley West, and perhaps local Tory MPP John Parker best indicated which way it will go by fleeing the community completely to run in the 905 (Markham, I think?).
Don Valley West isconsidered by the Tories as the safest seat in Toronto and to ensure the election of David Turnbull, the party is pouring money into his campaign.

Prior to formation of Don Valley Squadron the Piloting course (now called Boating) was taught in Don Mills by the Toronto Squadron.
In December 1972 a special party was held and Don Valley Squadron was presented with their Warrant by Chief Commander of I.K.T. "Ted" Phillips N. The first Commander of Don Valley Squadron was the late Robert W. Green AP.

Todmorden Mills Wildflower Preserve is a 9 hectare natural area in the Don Valley, Toronto.
The site consists of a remnant portion of the Don River and associated floodplain, and is bordered by steep slopes of the Don Valley.
Todmorden was further transformed in the 1900s by the dumping of broken bricks from the adjacent Don Valley Brick Works, and later by the addition of fill from construction of the Don Valley Parkway about 1960.

At the Don Valley Brick Works Park, the normal flow of Mud Creek is diverted into the Park to flow through a series of ponds (1) where the water is cleaned naturally before being returned to the Don River.
A community of Carolinian trees and plants (8) is being encouraged on the west side of the quarry and a large wildflower meadow (7) has been started in the central area.
Their Don Valley Brick Works used rock and clay extracted from the quarry and water from Mud Creek to manufacture much of the bricks used to build Toronto.

It is important for neighbouring residents to provide input into these studies as any changes to the Don Valley Parkway would necessarily affect our neighbourhoods.
