Brick surface textures were made by scratching with steel points (rug brick) or embossing designs by rollers as the clay column left the extruders.
Bricks were formed under pressure in steam-heated steel moulds; pressure applied by an overhead steel plunger provides cohesion to the brick in lieu of sufficient water for plasticity.
At the Don Valley Brick Works, the clay, which was conveyed to a mixer where water was added to 5 to 8 per cent moisture content.

The words "Don," "Valley," "Brick," and "Works" were spelled out in white bricks on these chimneys.

At the Don Valley Brick Works Park, the normal flow of Mud Creek is diverted into the Park to flow through a series of ponds (1) where the water is cleaned naturally before being returned to the Don River.
Their Don Valley Brick Works used rock and clay extracted from the quarry and water from Mud Creek to manufacture much of the bricks used to build Toronto.
Their exhibit of pressed brick won the highest award at the World’s Columbian Exposition at Chicago in 1893, and they won two gold medals for their exhibit of brick and terracotta at the Toronto Industrial Fair of l894.

This building in many ways reminds me of the abandoned brick works of my home towns.

ast year, promoter Sam Halpern introduced his newest venture, Antiques at the Brick Works, nestled in the Don Valley, on the west side of Bayview Avenue in Toronto, Ontario.
On the other hand, Halpern's Brick Works show does present many quality antiques by just 32 fairly well-known dealers—a small show indeed when compared to the over 300 dealers at the outdoor Christie Classic—but what can you do, given a small venue and needed parking space?
Outdoor shows such as Christie Classic, Kelso, Aberfoyle, and Odessa advertise "rain or shine." Evidently, the downpour failed to discourage the keener collectors from attending and buying at this show, and Sam Halpern was not discouraged either.

I held the camera upside down above my head so I could focus while shooting this picture over a fence.
I had tried climbing a pile of dirt to try and shoot over the fence but all I got from that attempt was dirty shoes.
