Dunn was born in Memphis, Tennessee, USA, and nicknamed "Duck" while watching Disney cartoons with his father one day.
Dunn, however, did not perform on the record, because he was fishing with his father in Mississippi; the bassist on "Last Night" was Lewie Steinberg.

Duck is the man. I remember somebody saying something about his lines always having that "down home, good feeling" to them.
Yeah, Duck Dunn is one of my all-time favorite bass players; my favorite bass lines are "Melting Pot" and every tune on Sam & Dave's 1967 LP Soul Men, that LP has spent a lot of hours on my turntable.
I was checking out ducks website and his son jeff dunn's website, checked the band that jeff dunn produced a cd for, (the hellhounds) got the cd.

Dunn and Young became acquainted at a Booker T. and the MG's show in New York, where Young, not normally known for sitting in with many bands, played a Jimmy Reed number with the MG's.

Going back to the early 1960s, Jones (organ), Cropper (guitar) and Dunn (bass) had been the house band for Stax Records' recording sessions in Memphis.
Dunn's staggered, syncopated bass lines, Cropper's sharp fills on guitar and Jones' jazz-tinged organ leads create music that is immediately infectious, still swings like mad forty years later, and is as listenable as it is influential.
