  Donald Healey - International Motorsports Hall of Fame Member
Donald Mitchell Healey, noted British rally driver, automobile engineer, and speed record holder, was born on July 3, 1898 in Perranporth, North Cornwall, England.
In 1953 and 1954, Healey set American and international records with his cars at the Bonneville Salt Flats; and he recorded 203.11 in an Austin-Healey 100-6 Streamliner to join the exclusive 200 MPH Club in 1956.
Donald M. Healey died in Perranporth on January 15, 1988, but his automobiles are still being raced, driven, collected, and enjoyed today.

The marque was established through a joint venture arrangement setup in 1952 between Leonard Lord of the Austin division of the British Motor Corporation and Donald Healey, a renowned automotive engineer and designer.
Austin-Healey went on to produce cars right up until 1972 when the 20-year agreement between Healey and Austin came to and end.
Donald Healey left the company in 1968 when the British Motor Corporation (Austin had merged with Morris in 1952 to form BMC) was taken over by British Leyland.

Donald continued to rub shoulders with celebrities, motorsport attracting the wealthy and influential in the pre-war period.
Donald decided to take the car on the 1934 Monte to prove the design and all was well until a coming together on a railway crossing with a train!

Austin Healey 3000's were built to be strong and torquey - and were known for their rally success.
In 1967, Richard and his wife Trish spent 3 months driving the Healey from Portsmouth England to Calcutta India, from where it was loaded onto a ship bound for Sydney Australia, arriving in September 1967.
Donald Healey came to Australia in January 1977 - when Wally Gates owned the 'fl and white car'.

 Austin Healey 3000 BJ8 - ownership & competition history since 1966
This fl and white Austin Healey 3000 MK III Phase II BJ8 (H-BJ8/37244) was originally sold by John Sprinzel Racing Ltd, Lancaster Mews, London, in July 1966, on Invoice 2235.
This particular Austin Healey is also the very first 'big' Austin Healey I had ever seen - about 25 years ago, when I was a teenager.
They put the Healey on a boat to Sydney on 23 July 1967 from Calcutta India, and it arrived in Sydney on the ship Vishva Kalyn on 6th September 1967.
