Topic: Donald Jack

"Jack and the Robbers" or "Jack and the Animals"
After Jack is joined by a group of different animals, they find their refuge in a robbers' den, chase the robbers away, and in most versions find the robbers' hidden fortune.
Jack is simply going to seek his fortune, not escaping punishment resulting from his own negligence or his brothers’ betrayal, as in Hicks’ picture book and other variants.
Jack leaves home because his father beats him for being lazy, and the animals he meets are in danger of being destroyed.

Jack Hawkins gives one of his finest performances as Captain Ericson, the commander who has to balance destroying the enemy against saving the lives of the men under his care.
The cast is a roll call of great character actors: Jack Hawkins as the often irascible captain, Donald Sinden as the loyal 2nd in command and includes fine performances from Denholm Elliott, Stanley Baker and a very young Richard Attenborough.
The performance of Jack Hawkins was mesmorizing, Donald Sinden and Virginia McKenna had memorable debuts, Moira Lister was perfect as the unfaithful self centred wife, as was Stanley Baker as the first lieutenant with the chip on his shoulder.

It is a nature conducive to wonder not analysis, a nature that seems to contain our own lost innocence rather than a nature ripe for exploitation.
Jack Stuppin has found such nature right in his California backyard.
It is nature that has come a long way from Cole's transcendentalized terrain, which set the model for the Hudson River landscapes and luminist vision of Asher Durand and John Kensett.
