McAlpine's ability to use camera positioning to capture not only the action but also the context for the action is undoubtedly one of the many reasons for the film's success.
Doubtfire McAlpine photographs the manly frame of Williams posing as a female housekeeper in such a way as to keep the audience in on the joke while leaving the impersonation convincing enough in the context of the film.
McAlpine's beginnings in the revival in Australian cinema at the end of the 1970s are now largely eclipsed by his success with more popular Hollywood offerings.

I have known Donald since 1970 when I was a young summer student at the New Brunswick Museum and Don was an even younger volunteer.
The loss of Donald McAlpine would be a grave misfortune indeed, a huge loss to the New Brunswick Museum, and to the community at large.
Those of you familiar with the case may know that Donald is apparently being punished for taking a leadership position amongst a large group of Museum employees who were disturbed and alarmed at the conduct and policies of the former director of the Museum, Frank Milligan (he has just been relieved of his position).
