More than anything else, Donaueschingen makes me think of "The Wolfman", my sister's boyfriend, who generously put us up in his flat here.
Donaueschingen is a small town in the Black Forest region of Germany, just 18 miles from the Swiss border.
From here we ventured out to Freiburg, Meersburg, Konstanz, the Rhein Falls in Switzerland, and Strasbourg, France, all of which are fairly close.

A Look Back at Donaueschingen, 2002 by John Warnaby   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
Donaueschingen can always be justified because it provides a vital forum for living composers, and even a few dead ones.
The 12-49sc survey of the first 40 years of Donaueschingen is an essential document for anyone interested in post-war European music, yet the number of fine scores omitted from the collection would fill several further discs.
Donaueschingen 2002 is also likely to be covered by two discs, but in this instance, there will be some rather weak scores that would not have made it in a more successful year.

Bas Blomhert - News and miscellaneous
There is not a single score in his hand; and some of the arrangements attributed to him (as in the case of the three Mozart wind arrangements) are not in his handwriting.
Because he is mentioned in the 1827 Donaueschingen Court Inventory (four years after his death) as a productive arranger of many Harmoniemusiken (including the Entführung aus dem Serail), this Donaueschingen oboist, keeper of the Harmoniemusik and scribe suddenly became topical in the 1980s and 1990s, especially in the writings of Manfred Schuler.
Rosinack certainly was the copyist in Donaueschingen and appeared as early as 1784 in the records of acquisitions of music, and according to the number of bills for his work and the presence of his handwriting in the Donaueschingen collection, his production was quite large.

The source of the Danube in Schlosspark, the Donaueschingen Music Days, the annual “Prinz Kari of Fürstenberg Riding Tournament (CHI)” have all made a contribution.
A special advantage of the town is its location: it has optimum connections by rail, motorway and air, and yet Donaueschingen is still a peaceful and healthy place to live.
