Doncaster is a town in South Yorkshire, (and in the former West Riding of Yorkshire), England which has been recognised nationally as an emerging regional city.
In 1194, Doncaster was awarded a Royal charter and 'Borough' status by King Richard I who was at the time fighting on the battlefields of France.
