Some 15,000 U.S. troops are scheduled to leave Dongducheon, 24 miles north of Seoul, to a new location far south in the coming years under a realignment program for 37,000 American troops stationed in South Korea.

This year, Dongducheon will spend about 700 million won, or nearly a fifth of its annual supplementary budget of 3.2 billion won, to hold the by-election to fill its vacant mayorial post.

The 2nd U.S. Infantry Division Band, ROKA 28th Infantry Division Band and Dongducheon Information Industry High School Band came together for a joint concert Oct. 20.
First Lt. Park, Young Mi, who suggested the joint concert of three bands, said that he was very pleased because the concert didn't stop as a single event, but became an annual event.
Dongducheon Citizens' Hall was filled with citizens even before the concert began under the direction of Cpl. Yoon, Yoo Ra, of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2ID.

DONGDUCHEON CITIZEN’S HALL, South Korea – The city of Dongducheon bestowed great honor to the 2nd Infantry Division and Area I commanders as both were named honorary citizens during a ceremony at Dongducheon Citizen’s Hall Oct. 11.
Among them were a police officer and a mailman who were singled out for their efforts to make the city a better place to live.
Dongducheon city mayor, Choi, Yong Soo, granted honorary citizenship to Coggin and Newton.

CAMP RED CLOUD, South Korea Dongducheon bar and restaurant owners met 2nd Infantry Division officials recently to complain about an alcohol ban imposed on troops during a training exercise this month.
Dongducheon KSTA chief Park Young-ho said the Aug. 11 meeting with the U.S. officials was to discuss rules relating to bars and restaurants catering to U.S. soldiers near Camp Casey and to get to know Hodges, who recently took command.
Bar owners were still hurting from last year’s slowdown in business after about 4,000 soldiers from 2nd ID’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team deployed to Iraq and they may not be able to survive the alcohol ban, he said.
