		Donglu is located about 140 kilometres south-west of the Chinese capital Beijing and about 20 kilometres to the southeast of Baoding, to which Qingyuan County administratively belongs).
		Donglu is home to a Gothic-style church originally constructed in the late 1880s and rebuilt in 1992 after being reduced to ruins in 1941 during the Second World War when it caught fire due to Japanese artillery bombardment.
		Donglu was the site of a Marian apparition in 1900 during the Boxer Rebellion.

		Bishop Su Zhimin, the sixty-five-year-old underground bishop of Baoding, Hebei province, was taken into custody at 12:00 noon on October 8, 1997 in Xinji, Hebei, about 280 kilometers south of Beijing and returned to Baoding to the custody of the Public Security Bureau.
		After the crackdown in Donglu in May 1996 which culminated in the arrests of Auxiliary Bishop An Shuxin, priests, and lay leaders, Bishop Su went into hiding where he was able to remain for seventeen months.
		Unconfirmed information updating the treatment of Catholic school children from the area in and around Donglu suggests that children who cannot supply a written declaration by their parents stating either that they have renounced their faith or joined the official church still are not permitted to enroll in local schools.

		Bishop An, recently released from more than 10 years of house arrest, was organizing the funeral of Bishop Su Changshan and was to preside at the liturgy Dec. 9 at the church in Donglu.
		Bishop Su Changshan was born in Donglu in 1926 and served there for most of his priestly ministry.

	Hotel toilets open to the public
		From 11:00am to 12:30pm on July 2, three restaurants on Fuzhou Lu, Sichuan Zhonglu and Nanjing Donglu would not allow reporters to use the toilet.
		A waiter in Hongchao Seafood Restaurant said the toilet belongs to the boss, and would not be opened to the public.
		An official with Nanhe Hotel on Nanjing Donglu said the hotel only served people who paid for the apartment and they had no responsibility to increase the cleaning cost for pedestrians.
