In the course of the past eight centuries Donja Stubica has been the center of the economic and cultular life of the whole region northwards of the Mountain Medvednica.
Owning to this cultural and historical inheritance Donja Stubica in 1997 the status of town was given.

The town of Donja Stubica is situated in the central part of the northern hillsides of Medvednica, in the middle of Subica's valley.
In Donja Stubica there is a spring of thermal, mineral water Jezeržica with tourist-health complex including a hotel, sports and entertainment facilities, indoor swimming pool, aqua park and bio production of food for its own needs.
During the period of eight centuries Donja Stubica was the administrative, judicial, cultural and economic centre of the whole area covering the northern slopes of Medvednica.

During the feudalism events were concentrated around feudal estates and castles in Gornja Bistra, Golubovec and Gornja Stubica.
Medvednica is also often called Zagrebačka gora (Zagreb's mountain), but that name is restricted only to the part which has belonged to the city of Zagreb from the 16th century onward.
Its other parts were also called the Vrabec mountain, Markuševac mountain, Bistra mountain and Stubica mountain after the names of the nearby small towns.

Milun Sedlarevic, from Istok, was severely wounded, while Jeton Muljaj (1948), Brahimaj Saban (1953), Sori Semsije (1955), Sori Dzevat (1950), from Pec, and Nikic Raina (1968), from Istok, were wounded in the terrorist attack made on 4th December at 11.20 in the General Hospital in Pec.
