DVD Review - Shrek   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Shrek (Mike Myers) is a private ogre, enjoying his days alone in his swamp, frightening those that trespass or wish him harm, but mostly keeping to himself and his mighty earwax.
Donkey, naturally, is convinced that Shrek has saved his life and proceeds to tell him so, and well, about everything else on his mind at the moment.
I’ve seen "Shrek" a couple of times now, and while I think some of the jokes aren’t as funny in repeat viewings, the story remains strong, the visuals of PDI Dreamworks’ animation become more impressive, and it’s clear that this is easily on target to become a family classic.

Shrek - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shrek lives a quiet and lonely life in his small swamp, until his peace is disturbed by the arrival of a host of "fairytale creatures" (like the Gingerbread man and Pinnochio), who were exiled by the nearby dominion of Duloc by its ruler, the vain (and exceedingly short) Lord Farquaad.
Shrek and Donkey go back to the Swamp while Fiona and Farquaad make wedding arrangements, with Fiona desiring to be married before that evening's sunset so that Farquaad will never see her in her ogre form.
Shrek's fight with the knights in Duloc is a parody of a typical fight portrayed by World Wrestling Entertainment, in particular, the wrestling style of Hulk Hogan.

Aided by Donkey, Shrek sets out to prove to himself and Fiona that he really does care for her and that both of them can be happy, as well as to stop the evil Fairy Godmother from ruining his marriage.

Shrek is a wonderful parody of every fairytale story that you can think of, for the kids it has charm, humour and tons of fun, and is a delightful film for them to enjoy.
In addition, Shrek has plenty of subtle innuendo and more adult themes running seamlessly along side the story, much of which may pass younger children by, without spoiling any element of their enjoyment; while at the same time enhancing the enjoyment for the older viewers.
Shrek is simply so well created that it can successfully appeal to a huge audience excellently voiced as it is, by Mike Myers, John Lithgow, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy.
