Donkey Kong Country - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The game has a sort of self-referential humor in that all of the characters are perfectly aware that they are in a video game, not only in the way of telling characters to press a certain button to jump, but commenting on the graphics and the like, breaking the fourth wall.
Donkey Kong Country also had a popular soundtrack which was released on CD under the title DK Jamz.
Donkey Kong Country was very successful upon release and was also available as a pack-in game in the Super Nintendo "Donkey Kong Set" (which contained the control deck, a controller, connections and the game).

On a dark and stormy night, Diddy Kong, Donkey's little buddy (making his video game debut) is bushwhacked by a horde of Kremlings looking to take advantage of the little fella's turn at guarding Donkey's large banana supply.
With payback in mind, the two Kongs embark on a conga line of obstacles and rough trails, jumping the scaly Kremlings in their path and collecting banana after banana in a chase that will inevitably lead to King R. Kool, the top burr in Donkey's fur.

Donkey Kong Country (N64) - Nintendo 64 Game Shopping at dooyoo.co.uk
In November of 1994, Nintendo and Rare released “Donkey Kong Country" for the SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System) and the main character is, well, you may have guessed it "Donkey Kong", whom is absolutely naked, except for a red tie sporting his initials.
You don't need to be a fan of Nintendo especially to be aware of who Donkey Kong is, as when computer games where much simpler in terms of graphics, Donkey Kong spent most of his days in an arcade game along side "Super Mario", in which he kidnapped the Princess.
Well, Donkey Kong has now become the "good guy", and he isn't on his quest alone either, as his much smaller relative, 'Diddy Kong', tags along as his partner.

Just like previous installments in the series, Donkey Kong’s kin find themselves fighting the nefarious King K. Rool, who is an evil genius with a pension for trying to take over the chain of islands these sapiens call home.
This dynamic was also seen in Donkey Kong Country 2, and holds up just as well now.
Just like the Donkey Kong Country games that came before, this third installment has some very nice 16-bit-esque visuals.

This is a clever way to design games for maximum success, but it means that there's no point in DKC that made me catch my breath or filled me with the joy of a game made by people who love games and being creative.
At the time, DKC was a delivery mechanism for a groundbreaking new style of graphics; since the graphics aren't impressive anymore, the game has lost some of its shine.
DKC really comes together as a game -- the elements of it all function in tandem and the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Fun though DKC is, it is - as many have said in the past - rather on the short side.
