Donkey Konga is very similar to the old Sega Dreamcast game Samba De Amigo, in that you’ve got a percussion instrument that you’ve got to play at the right moment according to the onscreen cues.
The second most important aspect of Donkey Konga is whether the drums would be a viable way to play the game, and indeed it is. The drums are very responsive to light taps and claps and if need be you may adjust the sensitivity in the main menu.
Donkey Konga is definitely a game that should be experienced since to play it is to love it.

Donkey Konga's broad, sometimes bizarre range of music will probably be hit-and-miss for most individuals.
The conceit behind Donkey Konga almost doesn't require explanation, either--you hit the drums in time with the music--but the way this action is presented onscreen doesn't necessarily play directly to the strengths of the DK Bongos themselves.
It's pretty apparent that Nintendo really wants Donkey Konga to be a full-on family activity, and the music selection goes a long way toward helping it appeal to a broad age range.

Donkey Konga 2 (GameCube) Reviews. GameCube Games Reviews by CNET.
The soundtrack in the original Donkey Konga was admittedly fairly bizarre, featuring children's sing-alongs, classic Nintendo theme songs, as well as pop music through the ages, from "Louie, Louie" to "All the Small Things." It was wildly inconsistent in tone, but it ensured that there was a little something for everyone.
Still, Donkey Konga 2 is an extremely easy game to pick up, yet on the higher difficulty levels it is certain to provide a challenge for even the most seasoned rhythm game veterans.
Donkey Konga 2 makes some tweaks to the gameplay modes found in the original, though the changes are mostly quite minor, and the overall experience seems identical.

Review - Donkey Konga // GameCube /// Eurogamer
That it doesn't go the distance is, in our view, also down to a couple of other things - the fact that the game's 30-odd songs aren't full length, and thus disappear into the "heard this five times already" pile within a matter of hours; and a lack of ritual humiliation.
Donkey Konga may be tossed into the same hat as games like Samba de Amigo and SingStar - particularly by the Cube-only specialist press as they search for a comparable party game - but those games are arguably at their best when someone's making a total idiot out of him or her self.
In the end, Donkey Konga is just too short-lived, even in multiplayer, to be worth the sort of outlay it represents.
