Donna Jean left the Muscle Shoals area in 1970 for San Francisco where she met her late husband, piano player Keith Godchaux.
In the mid-70's, Donna Jean also toured with the “Jerry Garcia Band,” and the band, “Keith and Donna.” A vocalist and songwriter, her songs were recorded with all three bands.
Donna Jean was a vocalist on “The Grateful Dead's” classic recordings “Europe '72,” “Wake of the Flood,” “Mars Hotel,” “Blues For Allah,” “Terrapin Station,“Shakedown Street,” Jerry Garcia's “Reflections,” “Cats Under the Stars,” and countless CD's released from live concerts.

Donna Jean came out for a quick cameo on How Sweet It Is and a curtian call at the end of the late show.
Donna was also in attendence at the Stony Brook show, but did not sing.
Donna Jean was Hunter's back round singer at most of Hunter sets(as she always was with Comfort)The JGB had no back round singers at that point, and Donna sang for a bit that night (that show was a big deal).

Drawn from Robert Hunter's timeless lyric in The Grateful Dead's "Scarlet Begonias," Keith and Donna Jean Godchaux started "The Heart of Gold Band" along with drummer Greg Anton early on in 1980 following their years as band members in the Grateful Dead.
