Irish news, waterford news, current events,
I was sorry that Donna and Joseph McCaul didn’t make it into Saturday night’s final of the Eurovision Song Contest and, to be honest, I believe most of the criticism in the media since Thursday’s semi-final melt-down has been wide of the mark.
It would have been fine for a different type of performer but the strength of Donna and Joseph was their harmony and the unique timbre and blend of two voices that sometimes occurs with siblings.
Joseph’s attire was fine but his sister could have been more stylishly dressed and most people I spoke to hated the flat-cap that did nothing for her at all.

At the end of it all, siblings Donna and Joseph McCaul emerged the winners, unkindly - but perhaps with some justification - described as 'The Milky Bar Kid and his Mother'.
Still, the McCauls (now repackaged as 'Donna and Joe') perform it with great gusto, and are capable of giving very strong live performances, even if the quality of their voices is a little grating at times.
Donna proved herself to be a very good singer indeed, while the song didn't really give Joe much opportunity to show his vocal talents other than during a brief solo part towards the end of the song.

Thus the grandes dames of the Eurovision stage find themselves in the position of having to get through the semi-final first – and frankly we’re not sure they can do it.
is a downright bizarre effort – at first you think it’s going to be another big Irish ballad, but after a few seconds it swerves (rather abruptly, we thought) into uptempo territory, complete with some rather bitter lyrics about the downside of falling in love and some seriously shouty vocals from the McCaul siblings.
Hard to know what to make of it, ultimately – it could squeeze through the semis purely on the strength of it being Ireland, but we’re inclined to think they’ll miss out on the final this year.
