		Blacktown City Council had developed Kareela West Reserve at Doonside, and with Rita Channells as our first Secretary, a steering committee was formed to develop the rules and raise finances for the Inaugural Season as a Centre.
		Their determination to succeed at all levels of competition and the sportsmanship shown throughout the season was truly a credit to these young people.
		In 2006, 30 years on, the Centre is still one of the largest in the State providing an outlet within the district for children to display their athletic skills.

		The Doonside bomb weighed about 100kg, blew a 5m-wide crater in a paddock, scattered debris for about 350m and was heard about 20km away - big enough, but a professional explosives technician could have made a much more powerful blast from the same materials.
		He speculated that much of the Doonside bomb burned rather than exploded - either the fuel/fertiliser mix was incorrect or the detonator was not powerful enough.
