  MapofDophkahExodusDafari
Scholars are divided as to the location of Dophkah which appears in the Exodus account.
He suggested that the wilderness of Sin which preceeded Dophkah was in the vicinity of Ras abu Zenimeh and that Rephidim was the Feiran Oasis.
He had traveled this route himself and he thought it unlikely for a host of 600,000 warriors accompanied by women, children, grandparents, herds of sheep, goats and cattle, and oxcarts as the passes and defiles in the wadies were not conducive to such travel by a large host.

Discussion: 137. Desert of Zin where were sent down the manna and the quails
In the recapitulation of the wanderings through the desert in Numbers 33:11-12, the order is: Elim - Red Sea - Wilderness of Sin - Dophkah.
The localization of Sin naturally depends on the view taken of the route of the Exodus.
Accepting the traditional southern route, the desert of Sin would be identical to the plain of al-Marha (or al-Markha), between Wadi Ba'b'a and Wadi Sidri on the west coast of the Sinai peninsula; its position would then be between Elim (Wadi Gharandal?) and Dophkah (Sarabit al-Khadim (?), the turquoise mines exploited in ancient times).
