ASADA commenced operation on 14 March 2006 and incorporates the functions of the former Australian Sports Drug Agency (ASDA), the Australian Sports Drug Medical Advisory Committee (ASDMAC), and the Australian Sports Commission’s previous anti-doping functions concerning sport policy approval, monitoring and compliance.
The ASC requires all ASC recognised and funded national sporting organisations (NSOs) to adopt World Anti-Doping Code compliant anti-doping policies that are approved by ASADA and to submit to the jurisdiction of ASADA.

UK Sport has welcomed the news that the 30th nation in the world has ratified the International Convention against Doping in Sport, meaning the first global treaty against doping in sport will come into force on 1 February 2007.

At the end of a doping-tainted season, UCI President Pat McQuaid said an independent team of academics would lead a yearlong audit of the sport and said any change would have to be accepted if it helped reduce the spate of doping cases.
The major tours in France, Italy and Spain have long objected to the curtailing of their schedules, even though there is criticism that the length and intensity of the races could drive cyclists toward doping.
On top of the complete review of the sport, the UCI will also study the possibility of imposing mandatory DNA testing on elite cyclists to beef up the fight against doping.
