I've been there many times.the dorayaki is good, but not great.Usagiya is much much better,it's in the differentleague.

Tha Dorayaki were light, fluffy, and absolutely delicious.

The thing that appears to be a pancake on this rabbit's head is actually something called dorayaki.
It appears to be some sort of sweetened pancake sandwich made with azuki bean paste.
Preparation of Dorayaki Take one pancake and place a spoonful of bean paste on top, then place a second pancake on top of the paste.

In addition to regular dorayaki, they also make one with shiro-an that I think is really great--not as sweet.
Their dorayaki are quite large, so they're a little more expensive than normal, but easy enough to split with someone.

Doesn't sound that good, but it's actually a very tasty dessert, as the red bean paste is sweet.
When I pack them into a bento box I slice them and half and arrange them bookshelf-style.

That's Dorayaki, which is grilled pancake with redbean paste, maybe Doraemon's weird hand has some magnetic power which sticks the Dorayaki to his palm for a split second.
He doesn't need to hold the food for long you see, he just picks it up for that very moment and immediately pops the WHOLE thing into his mouth.
So if you make him hold the dorayaki longer, he probably can't do it.

It's a Japanese sweet bun called "dorayaki", and consists of two flat sweetened pastry disks filled with usually red bean paste or custardy cream.
Metafilter is all about pancakes, OK? So why don't you go back to wherever you came from and eat your dorayaki.
Sarcasm aside, I call Central Japan home so I guess I can jump into the tangential thread to say that dorayaki may be two mini pancakes with some yummy sweet bean paste in the middle, but they are still most *definitely* pancakes.

I was shopping wit my mum in Isetan KLCC, n she wanted to go buy breads (mum's habit), so i roamed arnd n Boom!
N since young,i always wonder why Doraemon like to eat Dorayaki so much, how it taste...wat is DORAYAKI wor, my lil' mind would imagine the taste,the smell, the feel..awww how nice to relive my childhood imagination.
Tat's why i spent Rm10 (i think) for a overpriced kuih, specially imported from Japan,defending it from my mum's nagging for wasting money (ceh, she buy expensive bread...buy Gardenia enuf la)

oh,one more thing.in Kminari mon area-where Kame ju is at-,try Ogawa(Kaminari mon 2-6-9, 03-3844-4148).they have the best dorayaki in this area.but still Usagiya is way better though.

Red bean paste is a key ingredients for numerous Japanese desserts and appears in places such as; taiyaki - a fish shaped crepe popular at festivals; dorayaki - filled pancakes much loved by this robot cat with a four dimensional pocket; and innumerable souvenirs form Kyoto as manju.
Eaten it many times but never made it, so it's a very orthodox attempt, particularly after my two previous adventures with jellied delights.
