Dori Stories collects Dori Seda's complete works: not only her comix (one previously unpublished) but also her foto funnies (one written by R. Crumb), sketches, posters, and impressive, full-color shots of paintings and ceramics.
Seda's debut, "Bloods in Space" (a blaxploitation-style story about space men, written by K. Lambert), is pretty weak, but by the next year her artistic and narrative talents had blossomed.
Someone else describes Dori as the 'queen' of the underground comix; I don't think I'd go there, and given R. Crumb as the 'king,' you'd have to consider Aline Kominsky, among others, as the 'queen.' Dori WAS a princess, though; AND a brilliant artist, and also a very good writer.

Dori's little singles-bar speech (repurposed from Krystine Kryttre's tribute in Weirdo No. 22) was at least a more-or-less eyewitness account, so I can count the swipe as docudrama, though I'm not into docudrama so I don't know why I'd do that either.
What we have in "Dori Bangs" is an attempt to speak simply of something complex -- a rib-crushing injury with insult added by the awfully close stylistic relationship between the container and the thing it tries to contain.

Comic Book Galaxy - Pushing Comix Forward Since 2000.
Levin's personal approach is key to the book's appeal, coming at his subject matter by way of a childhood spent loving EC Comics and dodging parental and societal disapproval, giving his adult self an informed and insightful overview of comics and the world's (often grudging) relationship to them.
Seda and Katz are mostly forgotten by today's comics audience, even most of the smart ones, so Levin's insights and information are particularly appreciated.
I find Katz ripe for discussion, as his First Kingdom was a formative alternative comics experience for me, and it remains a title that I still don't quite have a grasp on after all these years.

Crumb is consistently despondent, hurt, simultaneously insulting and self-deprecating.
Seda is infinitely colder; she knows very well what's expected of her, and really of everyone; she simply refuses to conform, and willingly accepts the consequences.
Assuming you buy this admittedly gender-determined premise, it's likely that some part of Julie Doucet's charm--when she broke on the scene in the late '80s--was her absolute rejection of the autobiographical mode, of that kind of social examination and critique.
