	The Dornier Do17
		Dornier constructed a number of aircraft that were later to be dubbed the "Flying Pencils" due mainly to the long thin outline of the fuselage.
		The first flight of the Dornier was on November 23rd 1934, and was rejected by Lufthansa and the prototypes were left in a hangar, only to be discovered a few years later by Robert Untucht who was the air ministry liaison officer, and a test pilot with Lufthansa.
		By the 9th prototype the 217 ended up with the powerful BMW 801 engine and although these improvements were positive, those that flew it stated that it was acceptable to fly but modifications still needed to be made to make it an airworthy long range bomber in military situations.

		SETTING: Flying the Dornier 21 7 bomber, Schmetz led a carefully coordinated attack on the British battleship Warspite.
		After beginning his lifetime in aviation piloting gliders at age 14, Schmetz entered the Luftwaffe in 1935 and after navigator training was sent to Kampfgeschwader (KG) 253, the "General Wever" bomber wing, where he flew the Junkers 52, Dornier 23 and Junkers 86.
		In 1943, Schmetz was assigned to KG 100 in Dornier 217's.

	Revell Dornier Do-217 J2
		Dit model heb ik al een hele tijd in mijn bezit voor het maken van een recentie en omdat mijn interesse uitgaat naar de Duitse nachtjagers heb ik besloten om er een Dornier nachtjager van te bouwen.
		Hiermee kan ik ook een recentie maken van de E-5 omdat het model voor 95% hetzelfde is en alleen de neus en radarinstallatie aangebracht moet worden.
		Met dank aan de firma Revell voor het beschikbaar stellen van het model en zodoende de vele uurtjes bouwen voor een dankbare aanwinst in mijn nachtjager verzameling.

		Ein kleiner Spritzling enthält die Teile für die Do 217 E-5 Variante die der Bausatz repräsentieren soll.
		Leider habe ich keine Rumpflängenangaben ohne Sturzflugbremse zur Do 217 E gefunden.

	DORNIER 217 N
		The model depicts Do 217 N2/R22, coded 3C + IP (Wk-Nr 1570), a machine belonging to the 6th Staffel of II./NJG 4 operating from Tavaux France, which on the early hours of May 1 1944, piloted by Feldwebel Gunther Konzac landed mistakenly in Birsfeden airfield outside of Basel, Switzerland.
		The kit used as a basis for this conversion was the Revell kit of Do 217 E2 combined with Coster Aero Enterprises' engine nacelles and nose.
		There is photographic evidence, see photo below, part of the photo in Manfred Griehl's book about the Do 217 and compare it with the photo of the model shot from about the same angle.

		There are some minor dornier 217 features missing, which can be scratch built and applied.
		This is an interesting continuation of the Airfix Dornier 217-E kit, which still contains the alternative parts for it's earlier incarnations as the E dive bomber and the J-1 nightfighter.
