  Dorothy Malone
She was Dorothy Maloney, 17-year-old college girl with a supporting role in a school play, when she was spotted by an RKO talent scout.
Invited to a screen test in Los Angeles, she came to California for what she told herself was "a vacation with pay" in 1942, and made her film debut with an uncredited, non-speaking role in the low-budget The Man Who Wouldn't Die.
Malone was fired after the program's fourth season, and sued the producers for breach of contract.

DOROTHY MALONE: Well, you must remember that I think it's quite unique-- it was in his time-- quite unique to have someone give a museum to a city, run the museum, really have complete say over it, and finance it, which is what Dr. Fuller did in those early years.
DOROTHY MALONE: Well, he came on the scene really before I did and so I'm just not too clear, except that he was a struggling young writer and I would assume that his path and Dr. Fuller's path had crossed in some way.

Dorothy Malone - Films as actress:
In the Hollywood of the 1950s and 1960s, with its system of casting by type, Dorothy Malone came to be identified by her luxurious coif of platinum blonde hair and her provocative, sidling walk.
One interesting exception to the pattern of Malone's 1950s roles is her portrayal of Diana Barrymore in Too Much, Too Soon, a seldomly seen film made in the wake of the success of Written on the Wind.
Despite winning the best supporting actress Oscar for her work in Written on the Wind, Malone found relatively few good parts coming her way—perhaps it was that her physical beauty lent itself most readily to more decorative roles in the studio executives' eyes.
