Ross Township, named in honor of James Ross, was laid off by the county commissioners in 1812, with thirty-six sections, but later the upper tier was taken to form part of Brush Creek, leaving it with an area of thirty square miles.
Townships elections were held at the residence of Henry Crab until 1850 and afterwards at school house No. 3.William Scott, the first justice of the peace, resided on Section 32.
While the Ohio canal system was of immense benefit in developing the sections of the state through which it passed it was of very little use to Jefferson County, which received practically no return for the many thousands of dollars of taxes paid by her citizens to build up rival communities.

 The History of Baldwin Township
The Allegheny County Court of Quarter Sessions established Baldwin Township on February 24, 1844.7  Petitioners named the land for Henry Baldwin, a Justice of  the Pennsylvania Supreme Court from 1830 to 1844.
In my research, I discovered that Baldwin Township has existed in a variety of stages, from an agricultural area populated by a handful of white settlers and Indians, to a community consisting of 10,550 acres of land to its present status, population 2,477.
The area was destined to grow and develop because of the rich agricultural land and coal seams it contained as well as its proximity to the three rivers.

Pennsylvania’s coyotes have wolf genes, which they picked up when they crossbred with wolves in Canada, Hardisky said.
Pennsylvania Game Commission Regional Biologist Tom Hardisky said there are measures homeowners can take to prevent coyotes from coming too close.

Dorrance Township resident Marc Caladie said he has seen significantly more snakes, mainly garter snakes, in his yard this year.
Jack Hanish, who recently purchased a 150-year-old farmhouse in Lehman Township, said the stone foundation was home to nests of garter snakes that have moved on as the home has been renovated.
