Sparx Systems - UML 2 Tutorial - State Machine Diagram
A State Machine Diagram models the behaviour of a single object, specifying the sequence of events that an object goes through during its lifetime in response to events.
The following diagram gives an example where the state executed after the main processing state depends on which route is used to transition out of the state.
The following diagram shows that whichever state is arrived at after the choice pseudo-state is dependent on the message format selected during execution of the previous state.

The deck itself must carry a substantial load, much of it due to the compressing action of the cables which are hydraulically jacked to a required tensile force that will provide a vertical lifting component and a horizontal compressive component which is carried through the deck.
The diagram below shows how the tension in the stay cable is broken down into a horizontal (red) component and a vertical component (blue) when the stay cable is at a low angle compared to the deck.
At left is the cross section of one of the larger cables on the bridge.

The Geometry of the Dot and Cross Products
We argue for pedagogical reasons that the dot and cross products should be defined by their geometric properties, from which algebraic representations can be derived, rather than the other way around.
The most common use of the dot product in applications in physics and engineering is to decompose vectors into their components parallel and perpendicular to a given vector, for which an understanding of the geometric definition (1) is essential.
But this follows immediately from the diagram in Figure 9, which decomposes an arbitrary triangle into three triangles in the coordinate planes; it is straightforward to check that the circulation around the original triangle is equal to the sum of the (appropriately oriented!) circulations around the "component" triangles.

Note the use of round brackets to indicate when 2 or 3 ions of one type are needed to balance the charges and form a neutral compound.
Also note the use of dots to indicate the number of electrons that were originally present in the outer shell of the non-metal atom and crosses to indicate the number of electrons that have been transferred from the metal atom (or atoms) to fill the outer shell of the non-metal.

What do dot-products and cross-products mean? - GameDev.Net Discussion Forums
I see dot products all the time in some collision detection things and I never knew why they were there or what significance they had.
Just like with the interpretation that "it's the cosine of the angle between the two vectors", the "projection" interpretation is subject to the caveat that you have to be projecting onto the unit vector.
The cross product of A and B returns the (signed) area of the parallelogram defined by A and B as sides, or, alternately, two times the (signed) area of the triangle defined by A and B as sides.

The Cross product is undeniably the hardest one of these identities to calculate, but it can also be the most useful.
Something that you might find useful to know is the the length of the cross product is equal to the area of the parrellelagram formed by the two original vectors.

You may recal that will the dot product produces the length of a project of one vector upon another, the magnitude of the cross product is the area formed by a paralleogram between two vectors.
Noting that the cross product of two vectors creates a third vector, we can compute the i,j and k components of the new vector by drawing a diagonal line down indicating a positive product and a diagonal line up indicating a negative product for each component.
Note that the nabla operator is dotted with the vector to create the divergence operator rather than taking the dyadic product as when the gradient is created.
